Princess Mononoke (1997)

The Studio Ghibli special continues this week with Princess Mononoke, and will conclude next week with a review of Spirited Away. Set in Ancient Times , we quickly meet Ashitaka, the warrior prince of a long disgraced people. Ashitaka is quickly thrown into action, as a literal monster filled with rage and hatred comes down from the mountain on a murdering rampage. Askitaka makes work of the beast, revealing the monster to be a giant boar, but not before getting stung by the beast's hatred. Leaving behind a curse mark, our Prince will soon be dead, forced to leave his people in the hopes of finding a cure to his curse of rage. Ashitaka then embarks on a journey that will change everything, in hopes of extinguishing the rage and hatred that drove the giant bore to madness, hopefully before his curse mark ends up taking his life..
