Principal Fired After Gun Found on School Grounds | Jacksonville News

Baldwin Middle-Senior High’s principal, Michael Smith, has been fired after a loaded handgun was found in his car on school grounds—triggering an immediate district response and a potential criminal probe. Already under fire for past misconduct allegations dating back to 2016, this incident marks his fourth professional standards investigation in a decade. Despite previous reassignments and coaching, Smith’s short tenure at Baldwin ended abruptly as the district prioritizes student safety and launches its own internal review. The gun violation is being treated as a separate, serious breach—even though community concerns about his history were previously acknowledged.
