Probiotics and Cholesterol

from Heal Thyself Radio, Using A Holistic Approach to Health Hosted by Eric Madrid MD

Can probiotics lower cholesterol? According to a 2018 study, the answer is yes. Probiotics appear to have many other health benefits in addition to maintaining a healthy gut. In addition to diet, exercise and prescription cholesterol medications the use of probiotics may be an additional tool one can consider to help lower total cholesterol levels in the blood. Most need at least 10 billion to 100 billion units per day of a probiotic supplement. Common strains taken include acidophilus, lactobacillus and bifidobacteria. Some supplements have a combination of multiple probiotic species.
