Prof Jonathan Jansen on the proposal to replace NSFAS with direct Treasury funding

Deputy Higher Education and Training Minister Dr Mimmy Gondwe has proposed a major overhaul of South Africa's student funding model, suggesting that the National Treasury fund universities directly rather than channelling money through NSFAS. The proposal comes amid ongoing concerns about governance failures, administrative delays and financial mismanagement at the student aid scheme.
