He studies evolutionary genetics of viruses, particularly phages that infect bacterial pathogens, and RNA viruses transmitted by arthropods. Paul’s honors include Fellowship in the National Academy of Sciences, American Academy of Arts & Sciences, and American Academy of Microbiology.
