from The Exotic Car Podcast · host Stan Kaplan

Phil is one of the most easily recognizable professional sailors from Southern California. Originally born in Brisbane Australia and with a background in rugby union, his power and 6’7” frame puts him head and shoulders above the competition. Toth's many years of international Olympic class competition have honed his helming and tactical skills. He worked closely with teammates in both the Star and Finn class to reach the top of the fleet. Phil has tens of thousands of miles at sea, and spends 280+ days on the water each year. His years of working as a sailmaker and rigger have given him the full set of skills needed to help any boat achieve the best performance possible. Phil’s vast experience and calm leadership have won many races both offshore and around the buoys. Phil regularly sails as a professional in many different classes including Etchells, Dragons, Melges 24, Melges 20, Farr 30, Farr 40, International 5o5, Finn and Star class as well as bigger boats such as Reichel/Pugh 60, Davidson 52, Dubois 65, and Andrews 63. He has had successes in 12 World and 4 European championships as well as the Sydney to Hobart, Chicago to Mackinac Island, TransPac, Giraglia Cup, Van Isle 360, and the 2011 Olympic test regatta in Weymouth, England.
