PROJECT: Jackalope 003 - The Exeter UFO Incident

from Infinite Rabbit Hole · host Jeremy Socha

Exeter, New Hampshire. September 3rd, 1965. An 18-year-old kid, two veteran police officers, and an entire community faced something that forced the Pentagon to officially label it: unidentified.2:24 AM: Norman Muscarello bursts into Exeter Police Station white as a ghost. Massive object with pulsing blood-red lights drifted silently toward him over Route 150. He dove into a ditch. No sound. No engine. Just brilliant red lights rotating in sequence.Officer Eugene Bertrand (Korean War Air Force veteran, aerial refueling specialist) drives him back to calm him down. Then horses start screaming. Object rises above tree line. Bertrand grabs his .38. "My God. I see the damn thing myself."Officer David Hunt arrives. All three watch impossible maneuvers: dead stops, 90-degree turns, silent hovering. Hunt: "A B-47 came over. You could tell the difference. There was no comparison."Air Force says Operation Big Blast training exercise. Bertrand wasn't buying it. He knew what B-47s looked like, what six jet engines sounded like. This made no sound. Witnesses launched letter campaign to Pentagon.February 9th, 1966: Office of the Secretary of the Air Force officially retracts identification. Case status changed to UNIDENTIFIED.But there were others. Woman on Route 101 followed for twelve miles. Man in Hampton phone booth: "flying saucer nearly hit me." Line went dead. Never heard from again.Journalist John Fuller mapped every sighting. They followed the 345,000-volt power grid. Objects hovering feet above towers. Two months later: Great Northeast Blackout. Glowing objects near transmission lines during cascade failure.Sixty years later, nobody's explained it.PROJECT: Jackalope, File 003: The Exeter UFO Incident.
