PROPERTY: BoE Raises Rates + Mortgage Market Reaction - with Marc Champ of Wharf Financial

In this episode, Rob sits down for his weekly chat with Marc Champ of Wharf Financial. Marc is a member of the advisory board for the National Association of Commercial Finance Brokers (NACFB), with 20 years of experience in the industry. During this episode, they discuss the recent Bank of England interest rate rises. In particular how the mortgage market has responded to it and what that means for property investors, developers, and entrepreneurs.   KEY TAKEAWAYS The rates of mortgages have jumped up by much more than the base rate. In many cases, they are asking 6/7% despite the base rate only being 3%. Most expect the rate to continue to increase quickly, but Marc explains that there is a possible set of circumstances which could stop that from happening. If you need a mortgage, ask the lender where they get their money. You want to be borrowing from a stable company. It is not enough to simply borrow from the lender that offers the best rate. Despite demand continuing to outstrip supply in the UK, house prices are still highly likely to plateau or fall. But that demand should push them up again. If you still can't afford to buy, prepare for the next downturn. Save and educate yourself, so you are ready.   BEST MOMENTS ‘I'm not saying the rates are going to come down any time soon.
