Protect Your Confidence as a Leader

from The Manager Track · host Ramona Shaw

Protecting your confidence is a topic dear to my heart, and over the years I’ve noticed what are the most common confidence-hindering challenges leaders at all levels face. In this episode, I share with you the red flags to watch out for, and the biggest remedy that you can apply so you can fully grow in confidence. These are the five most common challenges that can feel like ‘setbacks’: You will make more mistakes as you go through a period of intense growth. As you work alongside new peers in your new role, it’s easy to compare yourself to them. We often tie setbacks with our identity – but don’t take them personally, these are time-bound setbacks. You will need to do new things, and just because you haven’t done something before, doesn't mean you can do it in the future. It’s tempting to set external goals (e.g. hitting a specific sales target), but these are beyond your control. So stop looking for external validation and look inwards – what does success look like to you? Some of us are born confident, some of us develop it over time, but either way, there will always be moments when we question ourselves. Experiencing any or all of the above are signs of growth and development, so let’s embrace them.
