Protocols vs Platforms

from A Plebs Take · host Trevor Bello

Welcome to Episode 3 of A Plebs Take, on today's episode, we discuss how protocols like HTTP, IP, SMTP, Bitcoin, and nostr differ from platforms like Meta, Google, and Amazon. Protocols rule our online lives and we cannot communicate within the network without these important protocols. They are the language of the internet, the rules per se. Platforms are built within protocols and are similar to walled gardens. They are not inherently bad or good they just are. The important factor for us is to understand when we are using a protocol and when we are using a platform.
