Proverbs 12:16 DC Ignoring An Insult

Proverbs 12:16 The vexation of a fool is known at once, but the prudent ignores an insult. Daniel Castor Sometimes people wear their emotions right on their sleeves. And it’s not always pretty. A child who crosses his arms and stops his feet as he huffs and puffs to his room. Or a grown man who gets into an argument with his wife and slams the door as he leaves the room. What about and angry driver who lays on the horn in traffic when someone cuts him off. We may laugh at these examples but the truth is, we all have our own ways of letting people know when we are angry or upset. Red in the face or shouting out loud... A sarcastic voice or an eye roll here or there... We all have our go to’s when we are angry and we can call them what we want. But you know what proverbs 12:16 calls them. FOOLISH! Fits of anger. Lashing out with no self control. Speaking without Thinking. Letting out all the anger at once with no regard for how it might hurt others. Foolish. I’m ashamed to say that I struggle with this quite often. I need to learn a lesson in prudence. Solomon tells us that the prudent person knows how to ignore an insult. He knows how to overlook an offense. The prudent person follows the advice of Elsa of Arendelle and learn to LET IT GO LET IT GO. This is good medicine for the soul. Are there any good examples of this in scripture? There are Several. We could talk about David’s amazing patient in 2nd Samuel 16 when he was having rocks hurled at him by Shimei. He could have had him struck dead but he trusted himself unto the Lord Or we could look at Joshua 10 when the people of Israel set out to rescue the people of Gibeon who had lied forced their way into a covenant. And yet Israel marched all day and fought to take care of those who had wronged them. Or we could look to Jesus himself who...”When he was reviled, he did not revile in return; when he suffered, he did not threaten, but continued entrusting himself to him who judges justly.” Let us aim to be such a people! When troubles and insults come let us I trust ourselves to the Lord.
