Why is lying classed as so horrible of a thing to God? Well I believe, for one thing, lying is something that satan loves to do… and he is good at it. In John 8:44 Jesus said: "…When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies". You see satan’s lies help show us who satan is at the core. He uses deception and crookedness. He sets us up to fall… he promises us treasures and satisfaction with pretense and trickery. So... it is disgusting to God when people to want to be like satan. It is an abomination to the Lord for us to take on demonic traits. Lying is the devil’s character… not God’s! Hebrews 6:18 says “it is impossible for God to lie” and Titus 1:2 speaks of “God, who never lies”. God wants us to take on his attributes and display his image. Solomon says how those who are faithful are God’s delight. Who are the faithful? The faithful are those who keep their word… their word is truth… not lies… When they say they will call they call. When they say they will pray for you they pray. When they say “I do” it’s “I do” for life. Look… we all fail so many times in life and so no one is truly faithful, but the good news of Jesus is two-fold: #1 - There is a way to receive his righteousness in our lives… to be covered in his truth you might say. In John 14:6 Jesus said: “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”. You see, we need everything good and true and virtuous about Jesus (that’s everything) to come into fellowship with God… And he gives this righteousness to all who look to him in faith. The #2 good thing about the good news of Jesus is - As we look to Jesus daily and see more of his glory… he gives us power to actually live out his righteousness practically so that… as today's text indicates; we will not have lying lips but rather be his delight by being faithful to him.
