Proverbs 2:16-19, "Guard Against Seductive Speech"

The way of wisdom not only protects against deceivers but also shields from the lure of betrayal. Proverbs warns of the “forbidden woman,” whose smooth words mask the destruction she brings. Her unfaithfulness is not simply a personal failing but a rejection of covenant—both with her spouse and with God.Her promises are empty, her intimacy shallow, and her path leads only to ruin. To follow her is to walk toward death, losing integrity, joy, and the life-giving bonds of trust that God designed. Wisdom unmasks the flattery for what it is—deception—and calls us to stay on the straight path of faithfulness.The wise father’s warning is clear: do not stray. Though wisdom’s way may be costly, it leads to flourishing and life. Every step off the path of covenant faithfulness leads instead to shadows, despair, and destruction.
