Proverbs 3:7-8 RA Healing And Refreshment

Proverbs in 365 Devotions Proverbs 3:7 Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD, and turn away from evil. 8 It will be healing to your flesh and refreshment to your bones. 
Healing And Refreshment RAylor In chapter 2 of Proverbs we learned that if a person searches for wisdom like hidden treasures he will find it… Proverbs 2 verse 10 says: for wisdom will come into your heart… But in today’s text it says that we’re not to be wise… at least not in our own eyes. These almost seem to contradict or oppose one another. But when attached to the phrase “not in your own eyes” we can see how any wisdom we have has been imputed to us… and it comes not from our own heart or our our own eyes but like Proverbs 2:6 says: “For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding”. It is the self righteous man that thinks of himself as self-wise. But our text says rather than being that man… That is, the man who in his self centered wisdom is not deterred by the fear of the Lord… but instead he follows after sin and rationalizes his selfishness and the lust of his eyes and makes a case that there is wisdom in what he chooses… Anyway… rather than being that man our text says that if we follow after the wisdom of the Lord it will bring healing and refreshment to us. I wonder how that works? Psalm 31 is a Psalm of David I believe it is about him but it also points us to Jesus on the cross. You can read it in full to see all the parallels. But verse 10 talks about how sin takes away a mans strength…. it brings much sorrow…. For my life is spent with sorrow, and my years with sighing; my strength fails because of my iniquity, and my bones waste away. That’s what sin does to a man which is the opposite of what our text says about the man who looks to the LORD. In today’s text verse 8 says: It will be healing to your flesh and refreshment to your bones. You see Psalm 31 shows us how Jesus became sin for us… he who knew no sin became sin so we might receive the righteousness of God. (see 2nd Corinthians 5:21) His flesh and his body took our pain and illness… even our death… all the things that sin brings so we might be be victorious over sin in every way… now positionally 100% righteous before God… and then as we are being changed practically on earth… and finally raised like him incorruptible, with him and accepted by God… Pray
