Proverbs 5
from "All Used Up" by ValiantVal · host "All Used Up" by ValiantVal
Nothing but Sin and Bones 1-2Dear friend, pay close attention to this, my wisdom; listen very closely to the way I see it. Then you’ll acquire a taste for good sense; what I tell you will keep you out of trouble. 3-6The lips of a seductive woman are oh so sweet, her soft words are oh so smooth. But it won’t be long before she’s gravel in your mouth, a pain in your gut, a wound in your heart. She’s dancing down the perfumed path to Death; she’s headed straight for Hell and taking you with her. She hasn’t a clue about Real Life, about who she is or where she’s going. 7-14So, my friend, listen closely; don’t treat my words casually. Keep your distance from such a woman; absolutely stay out of her neighborhood. Proverbs 5 focuses specifically on the theme of sexual fidelity and the dangers of adultery. It begins by warning against the seductive words and actions of a promiscuous woman, often referred to as the "adulteress" or the "strange woman." The chapter emphasizes the importance of faithfulness within the context of marriage and the consequences of straying from the path of righteousness. Here are a few key verses from Proverbs 5: Proverbs 5:3-4: "For the lips of an immoral woman drip honey, and her mouth is smoother than oil; but in the end, she is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a two-edged sword." This verse warns against the deceptive allure of an immoral woman, highlighting the potential harm and consequences that come from giving in to temptation. Proverbs 5:15-17: "Drink water from your own cistern, running water from your own well. Should your springs overflow in the streets, your streams of water in the public squares? Let them be yours alone, never to be shared with strangers." These verses encourage marital fidelity, urging individuals to find satisfaction within their own marriages and avoid seeking pleasure elsewhere. Proverbs 5:21: "For your ways are in full view of the Lord, and he examines all your paths." This verse reminds readers that their actions are not hidden from God's sight. It emphasizes the importance of living a life of integrity and righteousness, recognizing that accountability exists beyond human judgment. Overall, Proverbs 5 serves as a cautionary reminder to prioritize faithfulness and moral conduct within the context of relationships, particularly within the bounds of marriage. It emphasizes the long-term negative consequences of infidelity and the need to seek wisdom and guidance to make wise choices. All Prayed Up: Dear Heavenly Father, I come before You today seeking Your wisdom and guidance as we navigate the complexities of life and relationships. Your Word in Proverbs 5 reminds us of the importance of faithfulness and the dangers of straying from Your path. I humbly ask for Your strength to live a life that honors You in all areas, particularly in matters of the heart. Lord, guard my heart and mind against the allure of temptation. Help me to discern the deceptive words and actions that may lead me astray. Grant me the wisdom to recognize the pitfalls of immorality and to resist the temptations that seek to entice me away from Your truth. Lastly, I surrender my desires and longings to You, knowing that You alone can satisfy the deepest yearnings of my heart. Fill me with Your love, joy, and peace, that I may find fulfillment in You and remain steadfast in my commitment to righteousness. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.
