Proverbs 6:9 RA Sluggard Arise!

from Bragging On Jesus · host Podcast startup by Robin Aylor

Proverbs 6:9 How long will you lie there, O sluggard? When will you arise from your sleep? Arise From Your Sleep Robin Aylor When researching the common land slug, at first I found no benefits for their existence. Upon further inquiry I found that slugs eat dead and dying organic matter and thereby releases nutrients which enrich the soil. There is a European black slug that eats dung and also lays its eggs in it. After hatching, the larvae live in the dung for three to four weeks. Look, God had a purpose in creating slugs. They are for his glory; but the focus of this proverb parallels their characteristic of living a life of very slow and little action. They are perceived as nasty, slimy and gross creatures that move slower than a sloth or the hour hand on a clock. Laziness is clearly a bottom of the barrel existence that feeds off of worthless desires leaving a stench of selfishness and a trail of mucus to mark it's path. Although laziness is a sin in itself, I suspect it can also be brought on by or in connection to other sins we commit. Sin blinds us and stunts our growth. We loose our ability to focus and gumption to be motivated for righteousness. Do our intentional sins lead to procrastination in other areas of life? It surely causes blindness. Does it put us in a state of stupor to spiritual things. I believe from experience that sin fogs my mind and steals away joyful vigor in Christ causing a lateral exchange of what I treasure and delight in. O sluggard rise up from your sleep! This is the day that the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. (Palms 118:24)
