PSA Today #23: Kaliya and Seth talk with Jeff Doctor from Animikii about Data Colonialism, Indigenous Data Sovereignty and applying 7 Generations thinking to technology.

from PSA Today · host Kaliya & Seth

What is we thought of Data as the new water instead of Data as the new oil?  What if we thought about data rights in terms of sustainability over the past 75 years and the next 75 years, instead of in terms of extraction and monetization? Jeff Doctor is Cayuga from Six Nations of the Grand River Territory, and a Strategist at Animikii Indigenous Technology. His primary role with the company is ensuring that the experiences we design and develop are effective within Indigenous contexts. His focus is on (re)building Indigenous Data Sovereignty within communities — particularly regarding First Nations lands, housing, and infrastructure. I'm a passionate advocate for leveraging technology to accelerate Indigenous resurgence throughout the world.
