Psalm 23_5b (60 second summary)

from FABcast · host RBAR

In Psalm 23:5b, David writes that the LORD, his shepherd, anoints his head with oil and that his cup overflows. As David sings his mind goes back to the time when Samuel the prophet anointed his head with oil in the midst of his brothers. And the Spirit of the LORD rushed upon from that day forward. Oil indicated that he had been invested with power and authority and consecrated for holy purpose. David sings that his cup overflows symbolizing joy and gladness in the presence of the shepherd. Both the oil and the overflowing cup portray blessing and abundance at the banqueting table. David is to feast on Grace, not Fear. At this table there is no shortage. And neither the length of the walk through the dark valley of the shadow of death nor the presence of the enemy should ever spoil the party.
