What this episode covers
This psalm is a call to God to hear David's request during a difficult situation. David was running for his life from his son Absalom. We should share with God what is making us unable to do a task, what is drowning us, and sufficating us. Divine truth should be so secure in our life that when we have a sorrow, trouble, or fear we should be able to apply those truths to our emotions. Your emotions should not be out of control, but subject to truth. We should express our cares to the Lord rather than a drug or alcohol. We should declare them to the Lord. If we are just airing out our miseries and discontent to God without also prayer, thanksgiving, praise, Bible study, then you will grow antagonistic toward our good God asking why He has not helped you. As David was going against Goliath and running from Saul, God has been his shield (vs 3). It is good for us to review and remember what God has already done for us. Selah can also mean to take a rest or pause and consider who the Lord is. It allows time for you to think. Who are you talking to? The almighty God. God is for you not against you. Cast your cares on Him for He cares for you. Even in trouble, David said he could lay down and sleep (vs 5). David couldn't sleep in psalms where he was convicted and confessing sin. The first place God nees to intervene in your life is in your heart.
