Psalm 40

"Psalms" Psalm 40   From the Pit to Praise . . .   There will be times in life where I find myself in the pit of despair.    Heart issues—sometimes the pit we find ourselves in is result of our own digging. (Our sinful choices) " . . . my iniquities have overtaken me, and I cannot see; they are more than the hairs of my head; my heart fails me."  Psalm 40:12b Life issues—sometimes the pit we find ourselves in is a result of the brokenness of life. "For evils have encompassed me beyond number . . ."  Psalm 40:12a   My only hope for rescue is to cry out to God. "Be pleased, O LORD, to deliver me!  O LORD, make haste to help me!"  Psalm 40:13    " . . . He inclined to me and heard my cry." Psalm 40:1   "Blessed is the one who makes the LORD his trust, who does not turn to the proud, to those who go astray after a lie!"  Psalm 40:4   As I wait expectantly I can trust that God is at work in my waiting. "I waited patiently for the LORD . . ."  Psalm 40:1   God's grace rescues me from the pit and gives me a secure place to stand and a new song of praise to sing. "He drew me up from the pit of destruction, out of the miry bog, and set my feet upon a rock, making my steps secure.  He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God."  Psalm 40:2-3   The gospel is advanced as the world witnesses the rescue of those who cry out to God and place their hope in Him. "Many will see and fear, and put their trust in the LORD."  Psalm 40:3   My Pit . . .   Am I in a pit of despair?   Am I ready to cry out to God to save me from the pit I'm in, or will I continue to try and do it on my own?
