David writes "concerning the words of Cush" who perhaps made false accusations against David. 1 Samuel 24:7-16. The tribe of Benjamin would have had loyalty to Saul. Discontented (distressed/debted) men followed David. David was associated with malcontents. Someone was telling Saul that David wanted to kill Saul. God hates a person who bears false witness. False witness has costly effects. Guard your tongue! You do not have to get God angry. He already is angry. You need to call Him to action. David asks God to examine his heart. We should ask God to axamine and test our hearts. We should desire a heart which seeks after God. Vs 17 is a different tone than the rest of the chapeter. David wrote 17 afterwards to praise the Lord. Let God establish your honor to His praise.
