Psyche

(Piano music) Hello, and welcome to Your Greek Word On A Sunday, a weekly, bite-size podcast for anyone curious on language, etymology and connections. I am your host, Emmanuela Lia and wherever you are in the world, if you want to entertain your brain for a few minutes, this is the podcast for you. Let's Go! Ψυχή (psyche) means 'soul'. The verb is ψύχω (psycho) and it means 'to breath life into something or someone' so, it actually means 'breath of life'. In Greek-Roman mythology, Psyche was a young woman even prettier than Aphrodite herself and that made the Goddess furious. So much so, that she sent her son Eros to make a fool out of Psyche but then, they fell in love for real. The story is quite long but very interesting to read so, do have a look when you get some time. The word in English is pronounced and spelled based on the Latin translation of the Greek one. PSYCHE.
