Welcome to part two of our two part Casino Royale episode. And for this one, Ian joins Allison and myself as we break down Casino Royale. And the first episode saw us talk mostly about what we liked, our favorite parts, La Trivia, and also some, we did a little Bond Girl game, so that was fun. This episode focuses more on the recasting issues, and also how much are they worth game.
Since Ian was new to this, I thought, might not do super well on how much are they worth game, but as usual, I didn't fare so well, so I think Ian was all right. So, yup, check it out toward the end. And without further ado, we wrap up Casino Royale. Better close the door.
It's time to be constubated. I'll go through the list, and then at the end, if you have any people to add, any random stuff. I've got a couple good ones. We invariably do want this most of the time.
Yeah, tangents constantly. All right, James Bond. Eric, do you want to start? You want me to start?
Now, do you want to start? I'll give my names for Bond, I guess. All right. I'm going to preface this by saying, I struggled with the casting of this movie more than any other that we've done.
Oh, really? This movie was essentially just made. Right. So, it's like trying to recast it now is just.
That's what a cast is. We have to have is that every other movie we've talked about has been 30 years old or more. Yeah, I mean. This is only 15 years old.
So, all these actors are still out about. This is a solid generation difference. So, I mean, I don't know. Yeah, it's the guy's not just still playing Bond.
I know, but he's only sour at this point. Like, this is like when he's first coming in. I kind of, I didn't have this big of an issue, I don't think, as you guys did. Like, we're not trying to cast point break in Swaghi's still playing Bodi.
Like, but that's why Eric and I had difficulty with it. So, I mean, before we start, the criteria that I use, I know that it was self-imposed. First of all, I figured out what the age of the actor was when he made the movie. We usually try to stay at the age.
I try to get everyone's age now and had a lot of people based on that. You know, if it was a brunette, I try to get a brunette. If it was a black guy, I try to get a blazer. So, we will often swap genders, we'll often swap races.
Well, if we think that person makes sense, we often will go off the reservation. And the reason I did is usually in a casting situation, there's a lot of people that look similar, because they're looking for a certain look. And that's why I based my name. Famously, I think I cast Tilda Swinton as a Terminator.
So, we will go off a type as far as we need to. Okay. Or, there's no rhyme or reason. I just got to read out the funnel and then somehow.
Oh my god, that's so many major reactions. So, all right, Eric, throw out your. All right. The most obvious one, not only for this group, but just for recent Bond casting talks or rumors, I'll say Tom Hardy.
Really? Oh my gosh, I don't have him. I don't have him. Wow, okay.
I got him somewhere else, but I don't have him here. I don't have him, because he's too much of a lunatic. He got a control. He would do a bane voice, I don't know where.
Okay, sorry. But he works, I guess, in this movie, because they keep referring to Bond sort of as a blunt instrument at this point. He's not the refined gentleman that he becomes later on. So, in this case, I think a Tom Hardy could work as even though I don't like him as a Bond going forward.
Yep. But in this particular movie could work. Okay. And then I have just a couple of the other sort of popular choices.
Nowadays, Tom Hiddleston. Yep, that's what I got. And I have Richard Madden. Who is that?
He was in Game of Thrones. He was in, oh, he was in Rocket Man. He was Elton John's manager. Oh, yeah.
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. He's one of the kind of front-runners. He's one of the kind of front-runners. He's stylish.
So, it's cool. I think you have to, I don't think you can, I think you have to be British with me. Yeah, I don't even like the fact that they offered it to Hugh Jackman in Australia. I know, he doesn't cut it for me either.
See, the problem with Richard Madden for me is he was 90, he would have been 19 years old. No, no, today. So, like, if you're remaking Casino Royale today, who would you cast as James Bond? Oh, see, I do was completely wrong that way.
Yeah, so you're recasting that movie with today's event. He's a 34-year-old now. Right. So, I did it, I did it recasting based on their age 15 years ago.
Oh, the characters, that's how I did it. You are going to a time machine to recast in 2006. Yes, okay. I did it different.
That's what I'm enjoying. We completely done it. That's okay. That'll actually be fun.
That'll be interesting. Yeah, that'll make it interesting. Every round of the end-slash. Okay, okay, okay.
So, mine, I had Tom Hiddleston as well. I had Henry Golding, totally changing it. Oh, yeah. And then- Dry eye from the gentleman.
Dry eye from the gentleman. Yeah. And then I just said this guy to you, he is like the new buzz of, who should be James Bond is Rije-Jean Paige from, he's the lead character in Bridgerton, the new Netflix series, Super Howdy, Perfect Age, Right, Temperament. That's good.
I only had two names. One, I thought he was going to be too old. He looks younger than he is, I think. I think he could work.
He went back up. Kelly Murphy from, yeah, yeah, yeah. I thought about him. I did think about him.
Yeah. Yeah. He could work. I looked him.
I overlooked him for a while. I'm like, yeah, sure, fun. The guy I think works. He was turned down 15 years ago because he was too young and we cabbled.
Oh, yeah. He gets a job now. I always forget that he's British. He shows up on a list of people that you forget are British.
He always plays American. Yeah. We're off it. All right.
Ian, give me your bond from 2006. All right. So I think my number one pick out of all these would be Christian bail. Yeah.
Oh, yeah. He would have been 31 in 2006. I saw places where he was offered, but was that a rumor? Was he not offered?
He was likely in the mix, but I don't know if he was ever. He just started yelling at people. So this is where I throw in your disaba. Yeah.
Yeah. Yeah. That would have been right in his wheelhouse then. So the other three that I have from that time for would be conferal.
He would have been 29 years old. Bradley Cooper would have been 31 and Orlando Bloom 29. Yeah. I remember I kind of remember there was the converse.
Orlando Bloom was in the conversation when they were cast. Yeah. And then if I had a cast. If I had a cast today, Zach.

That's a lot of problems. I wonder if it's too short. But they were just, if I can make it, I think he might be all right. I don't know.

This is basically a tie. Emily Blunt. I thought she would be good at that is being from the treasury and British. And the second one I liked, I liked pairing her with Henry Cavill for as you will see obvious reasons.
Yeah. Oh, I want one of my best for men as my James. Nice. That would be fun.
All right. I didn't even think about her. Yeah. Yeah.
Yeah. It works. Or it could work. And then just in front of that.

I had I only came up with two names. My second choice. Haley Atwell, who's agent Carter. And then even Carter from.
Oh, yeah. And then but the my choice would be Felicity Jones. Oh, I have she's on my list. Yeah.
I did think about that one. So I had three. I had Ella Purnell who you would recognize her face. She plays a character in Miss Peregrins.
Something Ella Purnell. She plays the girl who is weightless that she has to wear the heavy boots in order to stay on the ground. She's not too young. She's like in her mid 20s.
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
But now I think she's in her mid 20s. But why I liked her is that she is in the same movie of the movie. Yeah. Yeah.
Yeah. Okay. Yeah. So we're.
All right. So my top three, the first person that popped into my mind was Jennifer Conley. Yeah. She would be good in the roles.
Pull it off. That's really good. 2006. Perfect.
The other two, which are maybe a little out more out there, but Eliza Duushku. Yeah. She's got a good look. She can.
Yeah. Mila Kunis. Oh, yeah. That's good.
Yeah. Yeah. And then Alison Brie. Oh, yeah.
And then the last one I have, which is interesting, I put in Rachel Weiss or Rachel Weiss. Yes. Oh, that's good. Yeah.
But she's British and she has the look. I like that. I like that. I like that.
You have been 35 at the time. Well, like, basically what, how I did it? Yeah. The character of Vesper, there's no reason for her to be any age.
I mean, the position she holds and what she's doing. She'd be 22. She could be 42. Right.
Yeah. Yeah. Cool. So I want to start this time with the chief.
All right. This was hard. I had a lot of names that I've written down and then crossed off as I was doing more research. So I'm going to just keep my three.

Robert Pattinson. I can't wait. I mean, I struggle because he seems a farmer to me. I think he's a bad man.

I'm not saying he's great. He doesn't do much in that movie, but you can see him playing other roles, even with the chief to me from that movie. You darken his hair up a little bit. He could be something.
All right. Number two, James McAvoy. Yeah. I like that.
I like him almost anything. Yeah. And then number one, I had Kelly Murphy. Kelly Murphy.
Yeah. Yeah. If you keep blinders, you ever see them? He's the main guy.
Scare Gray from Batman. Okay. Let me do my with she. So this, I'm going to go in reverse order as well.
Three to one. My three is the wild card. So here's where I get crazy. I go Tom Hardy as the chief.
Okay. There's a running joke with us is that Tom Hardy is the most on him after it doesn't care. It doesn't do whatever. Yeah.
It doesn't give a fuck. And so we had any sort of weird character. Tom Hardy always comes in there. So we always try to get him into every podcast.
So that's just really almost. My number two for the chief is the little young. I think he would work. Bill Skarsgard.
Oh, yeah. The guy from a. That's a really good one. Yeah.
What was the. Yeah. All the scars are related. All the scars are.
Yeah. Acting machine. Yes. Yep.
So like the Baldwin's and the Swedish. Our cats. Yeah. The Swedish are cats.

If you would be good in that role. I thought about casting him. I was a little against it because of his role in Skyfall, but. He was a great villain.
By the way, I was. The first time I watched it, I'm kind of like. It felt a little bit too much. And then I watched it more and more.
Like, oh, it's really good. Yeah. He has a good way of expressing without saying anything. So you had him as a chief 15 years ago.
I almost had him as a chief now too. Oh, okay. Gerard Butler. Yeah.
Could have pulled it off. Yeah. So another Dutch guy, Lucker Howard. Okay.
He's dead, but he would have been. He was alive in 1961. Okay. All good.
Mads was 40. Yeah. So here's my slam dunk. I think he could step in.
It's a no brainer. He's brilliant. Christoph Walsh. Oh, yeah.
Yeah. Yeah. Also another bond villain. Well, yes.
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. He's blowfeld.
Yeah. Yeah. He's a sheep. And especially the she doesn't have to have really any physicality to him because he's a banker.
Basically, right? A gambler, but a banker. Right. I believe I saw that also he is the only one that has two kind of weird physical.
Yeah. The formities, or abnormalities. His inhaler. And then the one guy.
Okay. I had to say this because we said this last night when we were watching it. As someone who carries around inhaler. There's no goddamn way the chief is weighing that on a table and walking away to go back to his room.
Right. It was incredibly. That's not about that. Really thinking the whole movie, including the poker.
And if I can just say the rest for one second, it's a key. The inhaler is a key part of the series, your honor. If anyone's watching that. All right.

Double down and go to your, your, your m. Okay. Um, like I said before, I struggled a lot with, um, I had a hard time with this cast. So I sort of stuck to the form of the, of the movie.
So I was, I thought about maybe going back to an M can be anybody, man or woman. It doesn't matter, but I still have the formula of the movie for the most part as well. Yeah. So that's what I did here.
So, um, the three names that I have, um, the first two are in no particular order. Um, for my M is for you, Brendan, uh, to the Swinton. I have her too. I have her too.
I purposefully didn't put it down because of that. I didn't even know you guys had this fascination with her and I had her in the woods. She comes. She's a badass.
She's so great. She's perfect for a no nonsense person in that position. Yeah. Yep.
I think I have this one. I think I have. I mean, I think I have three. Two slandungs.
Sorry, Eric. That's fine. Uh, my next one, uh, hell in a bottom Carter. That's good.
And then, uh, she's sort of aged into that category now. She's no longer a younger version of herself. She's now, I don't know, right? 50s mid 50s.
Yeah. And then my last one who pretty much kind of would slide right in there is a Helen. I was going to put her down, but I didn't. So I'm going to go because you just stole my Helen.
So Helen. That's how I mean it. She's also a game. Was my number one.
So I'm now moving her number two. I'm like, did you have her down for the 2006 casting of it too? She's amazing. She would have been 60 at the time.

I'm going to downgrade her just because Eric had her. I can't duplicate it. So my number two becomes number one. My number three stays the same.

So my number two would then be home here. She's a big fan of the middle character. She can be bond. Also had her down as math.
She's a lot of fun. I'm doing the therapy thing where she plays multiple roles. She is actually M. Mathis.
Oh, perfect. I would love to see Meryl Streep's. All right. So I had three.
Till the swing got stolen. So I've got two. Till the swing would have been fantastic. I'm not sure if I had her as number two or number one, but the other two I had were Emma Thompson.

I think she's number one. No matter. I love this actress and I think she can play any age. Who is it?

I can fit her at one point. She is absolutely delightful. I think she could play the right amount of sarcasm and bad assery. That would work with Jane Bob.

I just threw my clipboard across the room because I'd won only one name written down I had a secret little I would have never thought him. It's amazing. Are you known as the most The most interesting man in the world No 2006 Felix lighter I have two and only two and again this movie I I stuck to The formula with gender with race with everything as much as possible I don't know why exactly but I went for the look almost more than anything else. So if you look lighter my number two is I like him in almost anything so if I can she want him in there I think that's good by the way as you were beginning to talk I looked up his name again So I could get the phonetic pronounce you I can always see the letters, but I never know how to get the lines I like him my number one is along the same lines It's really a close race when he's to him or Donald Glover. I mean that lover is my number one good part for I think he's a little bit of a young Jeffrey right in this Yeah, all right, so I'll jump in so I have kind of a wild card in this But you have to kind of remember the type of characters that he's played before in his voice Any KHI All right, so I also had to well you Is y'all a four?

So I know that Whoever I still like him for the part he'd be playing at the poker table. He's also I Like him as the American CIA guy. I like him in 2006. That's my lead tool.
Yeah, that's my lead But we're doing with the chuetto anyway, so I have a wild card that was my first one But this would be my other guy He loves an amp-making. I try to put anything back in every movie, but I didn't hear so you got him. I'm for all Anthony I love it. Great.
All right, okay Okay, I don't know if anybody else casted this guy, but I'm gonna throw one out. Okay, and then we'll just do a Rapid fire whoever you have for anything else. I've got the meat reels. I have not I haven't given my Felix yet.

Yeah I've got a couple of names that I threw in there and the one who's my number one choice is Completely out of right field, but I taught I tossed around Terrence Howard Jamie Foxx My criteria for picking somebody is the delivery of the line. Keep the fruit.
Yeah. Yeah I think that's in this movie defines the character. Yeah, and so my number one choice and I know I'm gonna get reaction to this Is Michael J. White He played he was in the dark night.
He was gamble the black Bob boss the black guy Yeah, he played my Tyson in a movie. He also played he played Comic book character on on yeah I get I love it in my mind that guy delivering the line. Yeah, keep it through. That's that's my guy.
I think that's kind of sneaky Good, I wouldn't have pulled that I think it's not bad. I would not have thought of him But that he's good. I do like the idea in the book. This is not the case, but I like the idea of Felix being black.
Yes He in Fleming's world everyone is white and everyone is straight. Let's be clear who he in Fleming is that's who he was We can do that. That's a whole different podcast podcast explaining Ian Fleming's license this late, but Pretty severe.
