Pubcast 62: Snatch

from Pubcast Hosted by Brendan ONeill

Snatch is arguably Guy Ritchie's best movie - at least it is in my opinion. Allison, Eric, Mike and I all have an affinity for this amazing movie, and we breakdown all its best details, including: trivia, casting, best scenes and memorable quotes. Is it Brad Pitt's best performance? Is it Dennis Farina's best role? Is it the breakout movie for Jason Statham? Who knows? Regardless, Snatch is super entertaining and funny - so check it out.

Okay, if you know what I think the podcast is the area they're winning. That's what James Morison Welcome to the polkaft. It's down and enjoy a pint All right, welcome to the podcast in this episode Mike Eric and Allison join me to break down the movie snatch from director Guy Richie Last episode we broke down the scene O'Raille and I said that with my top five or in my top five movies of all time But I think I was wrong. I think number six is Casino Royale and that's snatch actually in the top five either way Snatch is great.

It builds on the London gangster underground that Guy Richie established in lock stock and two smoking barrels It really shows Richie's style writing and directing that you can see in his most recent movie gentlemen with Matthew McConaughey It's a super fun. Nice movie and we have some great ideas about how to recast it that there was being made today So go to the bookies grab your 86 karat diamond and get ready for snatch Ah, you don't have to repeat that. That's your accident. What was a gun doing in your class?

Protection protection from what? The Germans? I guess you can get the stock. The only man in your combination.

He's a shot. Getting hyper Tony. Do something terrible There is the stone. Shut up and sit down you big balls.

So what should I call you? I don't care if he's Muhammad I'm hard Bruce Lee going down in the fourth round Whoops Anything to declare yeah, don't go to England Alright snatch this came out in December 2000 But like all the data you find out or all the information I've done on it is basically 2001 because yeah, so late So here is we're right at the 20th anniversary mark. We are at the 20-year mark. Yeah, yeah, here's a no-nonsense plot Mike if you don't remember this is when I give the IMDB description of the movie and it's right be very dry and kind of It misses the mark usually but we'll see clinical.

Yeah, clinical exactly Unscrupulous boxing promoters violent bookmakers a Russian gangster incompetent amateur robbers and supposedly Jewish jewelers fight to track down a priceless stolen diamond It's covering all the ingredients right so yeah, it's definitely lack something which is what we like okay overall reaction to the movie when this came out Where were you where do you see it what impacted it have do you remember? You know being excited or not did it sneak up on you because I remember it coming out and being fired up to see it because it It's sort of it combined all Like all the stuff I like it was gangster movies. It was sort of boxing It was you know Irish English sort of nonsense Yeah, heist all that sort of stupid stuff and I was fired up and this was Like kind of on the heels of white club of 1999 and so Brad pit boxing That was a thing for a while like all the fighting stuff So I was totally in from the beginning and I saw it. I was like oh, this is like one of my favorite movies It was so funny so unique gritty gangster guy Richie stuff Anyone yeah, I'll jump I'll jump in right here.

So I will tell you I saw this movie in the theater I was so stoked for it because I had gotten on the train late for lock stock and two smoking barrels Yeah, totally and and so I saw that on got probably on what would have been in 2000 was a DVD out or no Either way, I got on I got on that train late and it was probably you know within a year a year and a half of snatch coming out So I was really jacked to see it and first of all I am a massive sucker for a good ice movie Yeah, so there's a big piece of that Spanishio del Toro is one of my favorites, you know I'm wrapped it was on fire at that point and Jason's bacon was just kind of coming in so I definitely I saw this in the theater and It was everything that I expected to be and and more Which is more than my top five if you go back to some more podcasts in the earlier years Well, and so this is we did casino royale last week and that's one that I've said is in my top five but Snatch is also my top five. I think you've got ten top five Well, I've how many how many of your top five I have six movies competing for five spots And I think snatch and casino royale are constantly fighting in and out and out so At the moment we're gonna say snatch is my top five it may be six but five a by B right? Yeah, perfect Eric, I'm sure who I'm trying to think 2000 I bet you didn't see this in the theater. I did see this in the theater I was in the army at the time in North Carolina.

I do remember it coming out I remember like being intrigued by like just the I remember the advertisements used the bread bread piss character a lot and I was intrigued by that and also another thing I remember about it was Guy Richie had recently I came over there were married yet were used at the very least dating Madonna and I remember and we watched I remember Still when MTV still showed music and They had like I remember Madonna being on a lot and Madonna actually like walking around wearing like a t-shirt saying snatch coming soon So I remember there was a lot of people talking about it and yeah, we went to see it in theater and we're very excited to see it I'm gonna I'm gonna step on the fun facts trivia section for a second because you mentioned Madonna so they were Possibly dating or maybe not not even dating when they were filming this movie and they use her song Lucky Star in the movie Right and they had to pay a million dollars to use that song cut to a few months later. They got married And we're a couple. I think a marriage happened before the premiere or something about that So he just missed a chance. I'm sure he got a discount there married Yeah, he might have got that for half a million.

Yeah, exactly Though the marriage They really tried to get their money's worth though because they use it both full-time to do it movie. Yeah, yeah I don't have anything here. I don't know if anyone wants to talk about it or get specific about it But the soundtrack is really good and it's really it's like it's sort of unique and it's it's song As we know, I'm not Johnny music. So a lot of these songs I heard for the first time or at least I wasn't super familiar with them when they came out I would yeah, I would say you know just in terms of general reaction to the movie the music and the editing are what make the move It's a great story and it's fun and all those things But it really kind of kicks it over the top with the editing and the music and it's really well done And obviously diuregii does all of the quick cuts and all of that But I do like how the music enhances some of that like the people Las Vegas thing with Ricky for being here.

Yeah, yeah, this kind of establishes his like diuregii's Style and tone for the Sherlock Holmes movies the gentleman rock and roll looking after this which is one I like a lot It's kind of it's a bit under radar. It's not quite good at this but the similar in tone Definitely under the radar though and I think a little bit underrated. Yeah, I mean that's a steer too far off topic Oh, I recently saw the gentleman. Yeah, we all are in it.

It's a jump. Yeah, it's a jump We'll do that at some point just to talk about it. Although recasting it. We're not doing that what to do everything else Right.

Yeah, I like the Manful Uncle also was Divergy and I think that one is under the radar as well. Yeah, yeah A lot more than the critics or would or the audience or weapon. Well, speaking of that. Let's do run tomatoes So what do you guys think the audience score for snatches?

We're gonna do audience and critics Mike, I'll tell you that we always think the audience score is higher than the critics, but we're wrong more than half the time So I don't we don't have a good feel for this yet. Right. So what do we think? Audience score is for fun tomatoes for snatch.

Um, I'll go first. I'm gonna say 87 All right, Eric Audience score. Yeah, 85 Mike He's coming back in. I'm in.

All right. Sorry about that guys. I don't know what happened. I just got on ceremony.

Sleep announced That's all right. Did you hear we're doing the run tomatoes score? Okay, so audience versus critics So we're doing the audience score. What do you think snatch got from the audience?

What was the score? I said I said 87 Eric said 85. Yeah, I was that you know my first instinct was to say 88 That's a nice cluster 88. That is quite the cluster.

I wonder if we're on the mark run tomatoes. The audience gave snatch a 93 Oh my god. I'll underscore it Now that said what did the critics give snatch? I'm going tomatoes.

Oh Critics Let's see. Are they gonna like the creativity? Malaya, but appreciated the guy reaching us. Okay, Ritchie.

Um, I'm gonna say 85 Eric Um 75 Miguel, I was gonna say 78 because I remember the critics not being so kind of locked stuck in two smoking barrels. Yeah, uh, the critics gave Uh snatch a score of 73 There we go How wrong could they possibly be? So Snatch made a total of 83 million dollars worldwide 30 million domestic, which is another week. I think the most 30 million Yeah, it'll be like a British.

No. Yeah, um Which ranked it number 79 in 2001 sandwich right between the classics Or needs a message of not another teen movie and writing cards with boys Wow Right behind that was james silent bob straight back. So it was not some giant hit although If you total the worldwide gross, which was 83 and a million it was the movie cost six million pounds to make So call that eight million bucks. I don't know.

Yeah, uh, eight million to make 80 million. That's a huge wild success. Yeah, so Absolutely. That's uh, got Ritchie's Around that as well.

Yeah. Oh, okay. I know I can't wait to hear that one. Um, let me give you the top 10 from 2001 with box office Okay, it's just 2000.

Uh, 2001. Oh, 2001. Okay Uh, so this is number one harry potter and the source for stone Then shrek then monsters ink then rush hour two the mummy returns pearl harbor drasiclarp three Planet of apes Hannibal and the Lord of the Rings the first time So, yes, yeah, not a a murderer's row of great movies A couple of franchises. Yeah, totally.

They're all like some of our movies right? Yeah, all right moving on trivia Yeah, what's your trivia you had about? Oh, well, so just on the Kind of on the budget situation, you know spending six million dollars on this movie that they did have enough budget for extras And so at the fight scene every angle they'd have like a crowd behind it And then if they shot a different angle everybody had to like shuffle over and be in the crowd somewhere around so it's like the same Guys in the audience just moving around the ring. Um, it looked like there was a big crowd.

Yep. Um, Let's see. Uh, fuck is that 163 times. Oh, so I saw it too and I cross-checked it with another site Uh set 159 times.

Oh, I checked two sites and it was both set 163 I liked 159 times specifically because it's tied with platoon and one more than your movie the heat Not raw nash is movie heat but the heat the heat was one. It's so great. So the wubba wall street holds a record with supposedly 569 bucks How many 500 Wow, that's that's what was the flabowski was pretty Right. Yeah, it's not even yeah, many of so bad And that's like Wilk chamberland's hundred points.

Nobody's ever yeah, well, even this 569 is upper debate But it's you know, just call it 500 plus right? Yeah, all right. So there were a number of things I'll just do a couple that I thought were interesting and then if after everybody goes through, um, if you don't have them so Um going back to the Madonna topic that um The guys that were doing the robbery at the beginning they're all dressed up as jewish jewelers They're talking about having this whole conversation about the virgin mary Is said to be a nod to reservoir dogs where they're having a conversation about like a virgin Yeah, that was kind of another Madonna piece of the movie. It's like he was obsessed with Madonna Yeah, um The i'll do two more and then i'll pass the mic.

Um one is that every mistake Um that um saw vinnie and tyron made during the course of the Movie where actual came from a late night tv show about real life crime um Criminals that you know where the things have gone wrong. It's like america's. Yes. Yeah, um, so I thought that was creative Yeah, and then the other which I thought I didn't spend a lot of time really cross referencing this but it i'm tv was my source So I figure there's people that are backtracking that but um When uh niki is saying the color of the caravan that he wants for uh mama Very winkle blue and that is believed to be like a reference to Um, norm and bait the dress that norm and Bates gets his mom which is very winkle blue So it's like kind of this guy that's obsessed and really focused and adores the mother Um, wow, that's a good one.

So I thought whether or not that's true, but if it is I really like it Um and red pit never making never introduces her by name. It's just mama mama mama Uh, okay. Let's see this I'll give the first one here from mike and then the second one is my favorite one my favorite Uh, jig of piece Okay, mike you're talking about livestock and two smoking barrels. Yes The critics were were hard on uh, lockstop because The cockney accents were so thick and difficult to understand at least by the critics if not, you know american audiences in general Uh, so richy saw this and responded And specifically made the character of miki virtually unintelligible on purpose to fuck with the critics and fluff the audience And honestly even fought with the other cast members too Kind of love that.

Yeah, that's my favorite piece of trivia too. It's so great So the one that I like the best is it's so perfect for the person and honestly the character Vinny jones doesn't actually appear in the scene in which vinnie Uh the character vinnie vinson and saller sitting in the car outside the book he's trying to hand over the diamond or figuring out how to do it outside the bar, I guess where Vinny jones both to tony walks up and knocks his gun on the window and uh, you know, it tells him to uh, uh Basically handle the diamond. Uh, that's it and then you only see his reflection in the windows You can't see his face watching it last night. It's definitely dubbed over the guy The guy's head is not saying the words that are you're here Um, it's a look alike or a double because vinnie vinnie jones who is a former Uh, sauter player, uh, yes sauter player.

It's not really getting the sauter Um who is known as a tough guy like Basically a sauter goon would fight people and get red cards and get thrown out of the times the tough guy fighting guy Hence his character. Uh, he got into a fight the night before was thrown into jail so he couldn't make it to set to film the scene Yeah, I love I love that piece of trivia. That is so great Uh The dog. Yeah, his name was bow bw.

I think His name is a bow or bow because I I said bow bow wow. Yeah Okay, I don't know. Uh, I said let me go bow. Uh, so he bit when he james, uh, the character saw, uh in the crotch and In the car scene and was replaced by another dog, but they made look like him like painted his eyes or whatever.

Um, but also later on, uh uh, saw uh, he Shoots the shotgun at the bookies and he hits himself again in the crotch with the uh shotgun and that take is in the uh Yeah, it's yeah, actually in the movie. Yeah, uh, uh, Brad Pitt As mikey didn't shower much if at all drink filming so we could have that grungy greasy look and he can probably hold it off Oh, he did Uh, Nearly I don't have a number but nearly every death in the movie takes place off screen. Yep And do you know how many there are? I do.

Uh, mike and eric do you have an idea of how many what the body count is for snatch? I'm gonna say yeah go ahead eric. What does it say about a dozen? Mike, oh man, I'm gonna say I'm gonna say a cool eight The number I found was 26.

That's the number I found too. Are you kidding me? Yeah, I mean like think about it. There's like a bunch of randoms with bricktop at the beginning where you know, there's just a lot of that A lot of that even that flashback stuff.

Yeah, then you know, there's a guy in the van after the fight that gets shot up It feels high, but yeah with all the all bricktop guys who get slaughtered by the pikeys at the end. Yeah, yeah So that's all the trivia I have if you want to add something else, uh, feel free, but I have one question for the group Because I thought I thought I would find this in a research night. David So we have to come up with our own hypothesis here. Uh all four of us Uh throughout the movie from the beginning to the end essentially Turkish is drinking milk the entire time.

I seem to drink. It's always milk. He's getting milk He's got a glass of milk. He's got milk in the car.

He throws milk on the car that crosses the wreck Why do we think he's drinking milk? My thought is that not only thing is it's like a foreshadowing to when he throws that milk Causes the accident and kicks off the events that you know, uh, trigger. Yeah It's supposed to be like the clue that it's him that does it. Yes.

I mean, but we do see it at the end. There's no question. He did Any idea why he's drinking milk is there some there must be some sort of symbolism or some inside joke that I can't figure out I think the I don't know. I think I think it's used to set up that prop.

You know what I mean? Yes Or is it used just as an excuse for Tommy to have that monologue about the uh human yeah human digestion and evolution. Yeah Yeah, that's It all seems flimsy. I think we need to go Got richy on the horn and ask me directly.

We do Uh, I've got that they have oh, do you guys have any other trivia to add? There was not a lot of stuff available online. So no, I think I think one interesting thing that I did find and I did not realize this And had to kind of go back and look at it. Uh, that's for an a character.

I really enjoyed in this movie right cousin. Avi Hello, Avi. Um His name is not Avi right and you know that that forget Abraham Abraham So He is Jewish because you know when I first saw the movie the first time I'm like there's no way is he really Jewish or is he playing a Jewish guy Right like it, you know an Italian guy playing a Jewish guy like making making believe so that it can be any you know the diamond trade So like his appearance his cousin, uh, isn't dug the head dug the head. Yeah, I think even in the voiceover says he's not he but he's good business.

Yeah, yeah But he and dug the head Have the same surname. I know So I don't know it's just like an another interesting little twist In the entirety of this movie that you know He converted to Protestantism. Yeah, at some point. Yeah, Anglican Uh, did you have any?

Yeah, I mean Um There's not much. No Yeah, there isn't much out there. I yeah, I had the one the ones that I can think of are the ones that haven't brought up already about um the reason for red pits character being Uh, nobody can understand them and yeah And I'd even I remember I had read about like the the million dollars paid for money stars But that's that's about all I can remember too about casting but that's separate. Yeah, I've got one other one I don't know that it's really trivial and I was trying to think so why would this be um either it's a continuity issue or there's an intentional part to the story that I thought perhaps I kind of have an idea of why they would do it.

So throughout the whole movie They talked about it being an 86 carat diamond. Yeah, yes So the very end of the movie when they remove the diamond from the dog's belly They say it's an 84 carat diamond And so did they get a breakdown in the dog system No, I was not thinking that I was thinking Are they trying to hide the fact that they have this diamond and not like starting the whole story back up? So not saying it's another 86 carat brilliant diamond that's been found and is looking to be sold It's an 84 carat. It's not the same one.

It's not the same one. Yeah, and it's off by a couple carats Like would you sacrifice a couple carats in order to get it for 84? Right, right. Right.

Is it just an error? My take on that is the voiceover at that point at least is from turkish at the end is I mean, I just don't think it's necessarily there When he would have gotten the diamond out of the dog and had dubbed ahead look at it and dubbed ahead Evaluated it as 84 carats where 86 may have been an estimate before or you know, I mean It's gonna be shipped to carrots off and it's gonna get a little taste Well, that's not heard of always possible. Yeah, this might have to be another one to add to our list for Guy Richie Yeah, all right. I thought that I definitely caught it last night and Kind of it made me pause just for a second and then I kind of Believe it's that's a mistake.

Right. It's got I don't know. Yeah, I think but I like the I like the idea that it's they're trying to disguise it that it's a different diamond And I like the idea that the dogs stomach acid Okay, I got two little things about casting and that's all I found Brad Pitt was originally offered the role of turkish, but he couldn't nail the one one in accent So they gave him the garbled Irish English pike accent Do that which dovetails nicely into my previous discussion on one of our podcasts where I said Brad Pitt does the worst ever Irish accent in uh that movie with Harrison Ford. Oh god.

It was awful. It was awful. He was trying to do a northern Irish and it was Horrendous. He can't do he can't pull off a Irish English UK.

Yeah, like that whole yeah, it's not because not I've had shot this right now And the other one I have this is interesting. I question how Uh, really how far this went but supposedly Sean Connery was the first choice to play Briftop. Yeah, yes And it went as far as that he they had him watch locked up in two smoking barrels to get a feel for Richie and He walked I didn't see anything after that like there was no like he hated it and said don't fuck yourself There wasn't anything like that, but his name was never associated with the movie after that so you can imagine But I did read that after Snatch came out. He saw the movie and said it was a good movie Oh, sir.

Sean He's on board. All right. How much you mentioned bring that up? I thought Um, I'm pretty sure I read something where yes, Sean Connery watched lock stock and two smoking barrels He came out of it saying he liked it, but then at the same time was sort of like you can't afford me and Yeah, I saw that he watched it and then Whatever I read like there was no conclusion to it like he was like, yeah, it's fine I'll say this if the budget for the film was eight that was six million pounds, right?

He would have cost six million a month minimum They couldn't afford an extra 300 extras for the fight scene. So right? Yeah, they were yeah They were moving the extras in the fight scenes around the ring so that they could have them in the background to wild I mean talk about doing it on on on uh, she's string budget. Yeah, there's another there's an interesting It's not so much a casting thing, but guy rich he appears in the movie Right when uh when we first meet dog the head it's in a bar Yeah, and he's like in the background reading a newspaper and he's done a few cameos in his movies Not many though only like two or three.

Yeah, there were a number of other places in the movie where members of the crew were used um as extras or Some people you know like everybody was kind of like doubling up on parts Yeah, like it's empty. Uh the guy the heads the guy in charge of the stuns was the guy getting his head smashed in the door by By many All hands on deck in one of the uh behind the scenes Movies or videos, uh, I found online. Um the reason guy rich he was in the pub in that scene is because he just That's just where he was sitting. He's where he was directing the the shot from Oh really?

He was having a cup of tea over there reading the paper and stuff and they're like getting ready for the shot Yeah, okay, just I'll just stay here and you know they just sort of in the background nonsense No one spoke with the harm and he's like a period piece where he has to be dressed in certain ways And he was just sort of like yeah, go ahead and I'll just I'll just be here Yeah, that's the kind of dread I would be like shoot around me. It's fine. Uh, okay everyone's favorite Game or discussion, uh, it's a recasting debate. It's recastervate Better close the door.

It's time to recastervate. Okay. We have a lot of names to get through um The let's say the one two three I'm gonna say the main four are turkish tommy micky and brick top then you've got Four supporting guys obby both to the toenie forest the blade frankie four fingers and then as a bonus, I guess Vinny saw in time. Oh, uh Let's try to limit the number of names we threw out there Uh limited to or if you have more than two crink room and let's not evaluate everyone because we can't be here I'm like I don't think you're gonna get that many out of me.

No, so you're okay I only have two I have two for most of them and I have three hundred protests So I think I mo I think I I have one for most of mine and I have a couple spares. That's about it. Yeah Uh, I'm gonna start with turkish and then we'll go from there. Um, this I had the toughest time with turkish and tommy I didn't know what to do with you guys My number no my backup turkish And I got stuck into the choosing british actors So I didn't really go from any americans My backup turkish is harry potter himself daniel red.

Oh, damn. I don't know if he works or not And then my number one turkish the guy I think could work but I like him and everything really is uh james macaboy Oh, yeah, yeah, I don't know that he has to have a shave head like you know Jason's datum or not But uh, I think he can pull this off. Yeah, but I don't love either one of those. Yeah, so um, I had a few of them and I'm gonna kind of go least to best.

I'm gonna go quick. Um, myles teller Yeah, not from me though, but um, henry cabel Whoo, really? Yep. I know um Ben wishlop wish off, uh, who's q?

I had him somewhere else And then the one that I thought was he like his name came up in my head just as I was watching it That was uh charlie hanom from yeah, the gentleman the gentleman. Yeah Eric, who's your uh turkish? I only have one name. Um, I I put charlie hanom somewhere else.

Um, I considered henry cabel the past my turkish is luke evans Interesting. I kind of like that one. I like it I wouldn't have it. Yeah All right cross give me a turkish guys.

I I'm gonna tell you already you already cracked part of the code and it's just diving into the harry potter series Right, so I'd run Weasley Well, well, I mean it Hear me out on this it kind of works because it's like In a way, he's kind of this nerdy kind of guy who's just cast into these situations and probably isn't a bad handling what he's what's in front of him, right? Well, candidly, we know he wasn't adept at it based on the character and the outcomes So that's kind of why I went down that path This is one of those movies maybe the first movie really that we've done where I don't think the casting matters that much Like I think you can I think you can find a wide Range of people to play mostly characters and it's much more than they're writing and the directing and I guess the performance but uh, I will agree with that but I will there's gonna there's gotta be a couple of caveats here Yeah, there's a couple guys who have to be certain guys like well And what's amazing is is the first one that I think of is Bricktop like hold that one hold that one Yeah, okay. I mean though. It's just so perfectly cast right and if they're shooting for It's one of the situations where they went for the big shot with Sean Connery And they missed and they were probably pissed off in the moment or disappointed and it wound up working in their advantage All right, I digress.

I love it. Tommy Was very home for me. I had one that was like I felt was a slam dunk Okay, so do you want to do yours or side of your mind? I don't feel strong about mine at all.

That's why I like me with mine because it's this is terrible Um, my backup is tom holland spider-man. Oh Fine. I don't know who cares the one I like but he's too old. Okay, it's Charlie day.

Oh Fucking love it. No, I see I know this is where this is why this is frustrating though because that's a perfect tip So my Charlie day would be ideal Charlie day is one of our the people that come up pretty often in our book So it's a little bit of a joke, but it's kind of no no, but yeah, it definitely works I typically make it a point to put him in every every movie every movie. Yeah, I find something for him, but I didn't put him anywhere this time and I couldn't find a spot for my Christina rail, but every other movie we've done I put Charlie day somewhere Well, Eric while you're you're talking about Charlie day. Why don't you do your uh your Tommy?

Um, I also struggled a little bit with Tommy. Um, I also had Tom Holland and then the other one that I thought of and again Like you said might be too old uh Simon pegs. Oh, oh, that's a good one Young Simon pay. Yeah, a young Simon pegs could do it.

Yeah. Yeah. All you want to dive in here. All right, so I have I had three I have uh, uh, down the Gleason.

Oh, yeah, I have Daniel Radcliffe There you go. Yeah, that's the one that I thought was the slam dunk is Finn Cole who is Michael Gray from PD blinders. Yeah Like he kind of looks like the guy who plays Tommy. He is He's got kind of that innocent look about him that I think it works for the character time in the movie MC shell ever it's not uh Nothing more cycle show, but there's the one I forget who cares.

Um, yeah, he's good. I think that's good one Mike you have Tommy. I went Daniel Radcliffe on this. Yeah, right, right So unfortunately, I like that one.

I like that one. I do like that one though It's just I feel like I'm falling back on like the Harry Potter series based on the fact that I know Yeah, this is a hurry. I did have like my you know spare one was the guy who played Draco Malfoy. Yeah, um Tom Hilton.

Yeah, whenever I look up British actors, he comes up. Yeah, I didn't even yet. Yeah, Finn Cole was I'm like oh, that's good. I'm a straight That is a good one actually didn't call.

I like that big Okay Uh, let's do Mickey and I got a good one. I want to go first because he has been a take my time. I go first. Yeah, that's good one I want for Mickey.

I want to amp up mccollie. Okay And I wanted to go first just in case someone else was found so I went out there Holy shit, think about it. Think about it. It works.

That's a name. I did not think it will come up. Oh, I think it's not bad I'm not gonna fight that one. Yeah, I mean you'd have to get him on some steroids, right?

For a couple couple like a couple of cycles over six months, but you can get him there Uh, okay, I'm gonna do my Mickey with some context and specifically for Mike as well because he needs to he's not up to speed on all of our stupidity Um In addition to trowie day There's another name that comes up in I'll say every other every single podcast when we do this and it is our man tom hardy Got to have him. Yeah, to me tom hardy is my mickey number one and there is no number two I do have number two, but it's it's it's absolutely tom hardy for three reasons It's exactly it is right up. It hits his wheelhouse perfectly. Yeah, it is fighting.

Yep. It is dirty greasy Unshaven look and you okay based. Yeah, and it is he is uh unintelligible and to put on a stupid voice and just ramble and mumble Perfect. Yeah, it's believable.

Yeah. It's Tom Hardy to a tee now I'll give you my second one just for a second name because there is no number two, but I also had Michael fastbender Oh, I like that. Yeah This mickey is not already and I I can't imagine someone else got it Oh All right, so of course I had tom hardy on my list. Um, but I had that was the throwaway.

So I had Jonathan Reese Myers Yeah, um, I had Ryan Gosling But my number one and this is for Brendan as well, uh, Paul Anderson who plays Arthur and Piki blinders. Oh, there you go There you go. I like that. I actually like that.

He's not Mickey. He plays Mickey's brother. Yes. Yeah Yeah, he's gotta be cast Arthur's Joey.

Oh, yeah, uh, eric. Do you have a mickey? Um, I've got two mikies. Neither one of them I'm super excited about um, I had uh between the two uh, my backup is killian burfi Oh, yeah, and and then um, I guess my my pick would be Charlie hanam.

Oh, yeah. I have I put tom party somewhere else Oh for the record. I have tom hardy two other places as well I read Tom hardy's wow. He's not number one in each case, but he's he's my uh, uh, backup.

He's on the bench He would be honest with me. Yeah, for sure. All right. Um, uh, why don't you go with your brick top?

Oh god. All right, so Um My throw away is tom hardy right for brick top. I definitely had a month from there. Um, I had a lot of guys that I thought could pull off brick top.

Um, I'm gonna go with um, tom wilkinson. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, Russell crow. Russell crow.

And gary old man. Damn it's gary old man. Yeah. Damn gary old man.

That's a good fact. He's my number one. Yeah, that's gary old man getting back to his roots of just the complete psycho totally. So got he's such a nut you out of love.

I was still my gary old man, but that's that's number one with a bullet. Absolutely. I've got uh two two throwways Hugh Grant and Sean Dean. Oh, I had Hugh Grant was on my list also and only reason is because he was he's like, um, migrating over to this from the gentleman.

Yeah, right. Yeah. And then I've got my well card and my well card. If I can't have your old man.

Are you ready? Uh, Eric, you ready for this one? Okay. Wild card brick top.

Tilt this one. I think she can pull it off. I think she can pull it off. Well, now I'm a little, I'm actually kind of embarrassed by my brick top after all those amazing choices.

So I was just thinking, I was thinking about just that actor and the way he plays that character, he's so unique and so specific. I couldn't, I couldn't imagine anybody playing it that way. And I just, I guess I went, I went in a very weird direction and I just wanted an actor, someone to just go totally like method and go completely dig. Wait a second.

Super deep. I think I know where you're going with this and it's my pick, but I don't want to let you say it first. All right. Um, my pick, I wanted him to just go to the craziest place he's ever gone with his method acting and that would be Christian Bale.

Oh, oh, that is not my, but that is fantastic. I have him somewhere else. That's good. That is a fantastic choice.

That's good. I had two, I have two for brick top. Okay. Yeah.

Okay. One of them is dad, so it doesn't count, right? The other one is retired, so it doesn't count. And this is where the method acting comes in.

I have Daniel, Daniel, Daniel, Lewis has my number one. Yeah. My well card is Alan Rickman. Yeah.

Yeah. He could have pulled that off. I see him pulling it off. Well, let's let's film this movie in 2017 or 18.

Yeah. Yeah. When he did, Daniel, they was still working in and on the side of the grass. Yeah, man.

All right. Mike, let's stick with you and you give us your ad. You know, this was by far the hardest one for me. And it's interesting that the Sunnycast keeps reading its head because I picked Danny DeVito.

Because I could totally see him working wiggling his way into this and making it. I don't like me funny, actually. That'd be really good. I like it.

And I mean, an obvious, like the lightest character in the movie, because everything that's going around on around him is relatively comical. I mean, obviously there's a few a little bit more serious scenes, but it's always kind of the funny pieces of the movie. He's engaged. So I'm like, Danny DeVito could pull that off.

That's funny. I really don't want to. Eric? I struggled with Avi a lot.

And this is the only place where I cast any Americans. But I don't like, I got three names. I don't really care for any of them. I have, in no particular order, Brian Cranston, John Hamm, John Hamm, and Ted Danson.

That's fantastic. I would love to see Danson like switch gears and become something other than what he has, right? That would be it. Oh my God.

So for me, I had a singular lens in which I cast this character, and that was, could I hear them say, sit down and shut up your big bald buck? So that's a big one. Every actor I considered for this part had to be able to use a voice that caught my attention. So I had, I actually came up with a lot of names because of that.

I thought of Samuel L. Jackson. Like a totally different. Yeah.

Josh Brolin. My favorite. My love. Oh God.

Josh Brolin. If you would get him to stop posting on social media, I'd be in for this. Yeah. So then I thought George Clooney might be good in that part.

Yeah. Might. And then I had Steve Bishemi as another possibility, but my favorite was Ray Liotta. Oh, good call.

Good call. I like that one. Yeah. That works totally.

I had a lot of problems with Abby. I have two names. I don't like either. One of them.

But my number one I can live with. But my backup is for some reason Stanley Tucci. Oh, yeah. Again.

That's a good one. Okay. The guy I'm doing with is Alec Baldwin. Oh, yeah.

My Abby. I love it. But that's all I got. All right.

I like that. We get into the three knuckleheads of Bullet Tooth Tony, Boris the blade and Frankie Four fingers. Bullet Tooth Tony. Eric, you go first.

Hey, you're Salba. Damn it. I had him too. I don't have him.

It took me a long time to find a name for for Bullet Tooth Tony. But as soon as I hit on him, that's why I didn't even hesitate when I when you ask the question, I didn't even want to dance around it. It's got to be a trouble for me. So I've got let's call before I get to my number one.

My backups were Christian Bale and Tom Hardy. I think Tom Hardy of Bullet Tooth Tony could be something as well. My number one is Idris Elba Light. And that is Digimon Hanzu.

Jimon Hanzu? Yeah. I think he could do a Bullet Tooth Tony. But yeah, he's essentially Idris Elba.

I like it. I had Tom Hardy in this one. That was kind of a chip shot, right? But my wild card on this one was Charlie Han.

Because he can play it. You can play a mean character, right? So I just thought it would be a twist. It'd be a little bit of a twist.

Bullet Tooth Tony seems like he's a little broader, bigger. Charlie Hanum doesn't seem like he's the strapping kind of... Charlie Hanum is becoming Jack-of-all-trades for us on this. We use him for a lot of stuff.

Yeah. He's versatile. So does Guy Ritchie. Yeah.

Apparently, right? Al, what do you... What do you have? So I had...

I thought we put Jason Statham in this role 20 years later. That's actually a good call right there, right? Going in a slightly different direction. I had Robert Carlisle.

Where's he been the last 15 years? Right. Right. But two others that are more realistic and that was either Colin Farrell or John Varenthall.

Colin Farrell probably deserved a seat at this table somewhere. That's a name I didn't consider for any of these. Actually, he would have been a good Mickey. Oh, he would have been a good Mickey.

He's in this one somewhere. Oh no, he's in the frame. He is definitely the friend. Yeah, I put Colin Farrell in here somewhere else.

You did squeeze him in, okay? All right. Boris the Blade. And I'll start because this is my third place where I had Tom Hardy.

Not my number one, but he's on my list. So my backup, my backup Boris the Blade are Daniel Day Lewis, Tom Hardy. And the guy I'm going with for Boris the Blade for some reason is Ralph Fiennes. Rafe, Rafe.

Yeah. I'm a fan of this. I don't know if he works today. Well, he was in one of my top three movies, you know, English nation.

That's right. Right. Good Lord. We've already had it multiple times on these podcasts.

For those who are just tuning in, I get my ass kicked or that being my top three movies every single time. Who's your Boris the Blade? My Boris the Blade. So I'm gonna have to beg for forgiveness on this because I was like leaning in and just thinking different people, but I had Robin Williams and again, he's kind of done.

So but I think he would have been awesome in that role either then or like at his expiration date, he would have been great. Yeah. Yeah. You know, and that's all I could really come up with on Boris.

That was a tough one because I don't even know who that guy is. He played over. He was great. He's great.

And he always plays the Russian in whatever movie I'm making. Right. Right. Yeah.

I don't even know his name. He's only Russian. There. Do you ever blade?

This is where I put Tom Hardy. There you go. Yeah. So I had Tom Hardy as Boris, well, too Tony and Mickey.

Re-variations of Tom Hardy. I'm gonna work on the budget for him. Yeah. I guess I bounce around by multiple.

Yeah. But like Peter Sellers and Dr. Strange Love. Yeah.

All right. So this is where I had Alec Baldwin. Yep. But I had also Peter Stormer, who's the guy from Fargo.

Yeah. Oh, yeah. And then my number one, and I'm laughing just thinking about it, but I think it would be hilarious is Sasha Baron Cohen. He should be in every movie at this point.

Just put him in everything. I would have him working around the clock. I like the Peter Stormer effect. That's really good.

So the next one is Frankie Four Fingers. I think Sasha could do that. He's on my list. Yeah.

Frankie Four Fingers. I've got two backups that I don't like. I only go with my number one. My backups would be Tom Hillston.

Robert Pattinson, for some reason. Who cares? The guy I like is Ben Wishaw Q from the movies. I think he'd be a good Frankie Four Fingers.

Eric, what you got? I went sort of in the same vein of Benicio del Toro and said Pedro Cascale. That's a good call. I like going off the beaten path for that character.

I prefer that. Like a lesser note. So, oh, go ahead. No, no, no, no.

Go ahead. No. So I was when we went through the list of characters we would be doing, there is not a single woman on the list. So I was trying to figure out where might be a good place to have somebody in here have a woman in this.

If you look, I was watching the movie and doing this list. There's no women in the whole entire world. There aren't no women. Yeah.

The twins. The twins. That's it. The twins and the mom.

And the chicken, the betting booth. Yeah. All bets are off. Yeah.

That's right. I've told this one. But so I have Kat Denning and Frankie Four Fingers. Yeah.

So kind of playing not like the marble mouth version, but just kind of a kind of goofball in this position or in this role. I have Katherine Han and kind of having a meal character. I put in James Morrison. Oh, James Morrison could call.

I like that too. Westworld. My nemesis that show. I just had one for Frankie Four Fingers, but I think it's a fucking dynamic fit.

Jared Lotto. Jared Lotto. Oh, yeah. That's good.

I like that. Because he's just weird enough to pull it off. Like, when he said El Toro is strange. And strange and talented, right?

And I kind of put Jared Lotto and that guy would be Shilaboth. Like, they're just like super weird personally already. So, but I like what's going on Shilaboth, Jared Lotto and I can only imagine that. Did we get Eric Frankie Four Fingers?

Yeah. Yeah. Pedro Pascal. So that's right.

I'm going to do all three of these together because I have one name for each. And this is Vincent Saul and Tyrone. So I've got Daniel Kaluia for Vinnie. I've got Donald Glover for Saul.

Oh. And I've got John Boyega for Tyrone. I like it. I think they could all make those work.

I, yeah, I'm with you on all of them. I got back to my casting then. People again. Yes.

I have Chadwick Bozeman, Kevin Hart and Patrice O'Neill. Patrice O'Neill. I'm fucking Patrice O'Neill getting attacked by that dog in the back of the car. Like I envisioned it in my own.

But I would think Patrice would be the driver who can't get out of front seat. Oh, yeah. He's a driver. Yeah.

But yeah, because he would have to be the bigger guy, right? But I know I kind of subconsciously put him in the backseat and attack by the dogs. It would have been so funny. Yeah.

So I had the same names that you had written down. And then I'm like, I don't know enough kind of young British actors. So I just put the tumblers down, just swap out. The gentleman.

Yes. Yeah. The time. I like it.

It's good. They're like a band. You just kind of they go in together. Yeah.

Eric, I have the same. I didn't pick a Tyrone, but I do have John Boyega and Daniel Kaluya for Saul and Vinnie and they can they're almost interchangeable. Yeah, they're interchangeable. Right.

Yeah. Sweet. I don't have any other characters. Allison usually well.

Well, one of them I already said, which was the woman in the betting group, that's where I put to the swim. Yeah. The other one was Doug the Head and that's where I put Stanley Tucci. Sure.

Yeah. Okay. I like to tell the swim pick. You know, in an homage to Quentin Tarantino though, you could always put an oomatherma in that group.

Right. You know, and I mean, not so much age specific being, you know, a bat taker and a parlor, right? Yeah. So.

So I wrote down two actors' names that I was trying to fit into some of these places, but I couldn't fit him in. And I'm surprised we didn't get him anywhere. And that was Jude Law and you and McGregor. I thought, wonder if both of them would squeeze in here.

Jude Law, I really think Jude Law is talented, but I think part of the reason that he probably didn't come up is because he seems to have vanished. Yeah. You know, I mean, I don't care much about Jude Law anymore. Does anyone?

We did cast like three dead people too. So. Right. Sure.

But I think he feels a little too refined for this movie. Yeah. Yeah. Probably doesn't fit, but you know, we're you and McGregor's just in is annoying to me.

Oh, really? Yeah. I mean, I liked what movie I liked that basslorm and movie was pretty entertaining. Yeah.

I think they were gonna be but I was surprised we didn't so much. But I'm not a really excited you and you and you. Okay. Okay.

Memorable scenes and I got one. I cast a Darren who was the, I guess, Mickey's, I guess, number one, I guess, sidekick. Yeah. In the in the gym.

Yeah. And I had, I guess, two names for that or just like could be pikeys in the background. I would, I would add, I'll add you and McGregor that list. I didn't think of him, but he I think he could work for that.

And then two names, that's where I threw in Colin Farrell. And I would also put Liam Neeson in there too. You know what? I was just gonna bring up Liam Neeson as someone.

How did he not squeeze into this list somewhere prior? I thought of him for a moment for Bricktop. Yeah. Maybe he's just too nice.

I mean, I don't buy any of those movies where he's, you know, I will find you and I will kill you. I don't know how he's not breaking in the background because he's like 65 years old. And he's also like 6 foot 5 inches tall. But I'm surprised he didn't make it into this somewhere earlier.

He could maybe brick maybe Bricktop or Doug ahead. He didn't even, now Avi, he wouldn't be able to pull off. He's too. All right.

Memorable scenes and quotable lines. There are many. And all bets are off. That's a great one.

That's a great one. I'm going to bet. I am not in here. Can I fucking bet?

Appreciated. All bets are off. If all bets are off, then they can't be any money, can they? I ain't fucking buying that.

That's the end. You've got fucking sending it. It's a fact. Allison said, I think the most memorable one or our favorite one.

Sit down and shut up. You big ball. Five. You got a two question.

We're going to wonder. Do you hear that? I'm coming to London. Shut up and sit down.

You big ball. Five. Big ball. I think that's a couple of London.

We'll say that when we're ready to go somewhere. Like, that's that's a staple in the O'Neill House. Yeah. My favorite is the nemesis one.

I actually said it to someone once. Oh, yes. That's a great quote. Or you.

Do you know what nemesis means? A righteous infliction of retribution manifested by an appropriate agents. Proversified in this case by an honorable cunt. Me.

Do you know what nemesis means? A righteous infliction of retribution manifested by an appropriate agent. Proversified in this case by an honorable cunt. Me.

My favorite bricktop line is when they're making him tea and they have a good one. He's like, no, I'm sweet enough. No, Turkish. I'm sweet enough.

Yeah. You take shit off. No, thank you, Turkish. I'm sweet enough.

I will say greedy as a pig a lot. greedy as a pig. It's amazing that most of the lines are from bricktop though. Like, the super memorable, like the ones I just punched, right?

I like bags. I like bags. Oh, dogs. I like bags.
