Pulled Away But Called Back | Bishop Steven Arnold

from Grace United Little Rock Hosted by Grace United Little Rock

Drifting from God is one of the most common and quietly dangerous experiences in the Christian life. It rarely announces itself. One skipped prayer becomes a week without one. One missed Sunday becomes a pattern. Hebrews 2:1 warns believers to hold tightly to the truth they have heard, because drifting is a real and present danger. Discouragement from trials and tribulation can wear faith down over time. Distractions have a way of appearing at exactly the wrong moments, pulling attention away from God just when pursuit of Him matters most. The enemy is strategic, and recognizing his tactics is the first step toward resisting them. Returning to God begins with an honest look at what caused the drift in the first place. It usually comes down to one of three things: a person whose influence quietly reshaped your convictions, a place that gave your guard permission to come down, or a pursuit that began competing with God for your time and affection. Once the source is identified, the response has to be immediate. Hebrews 3:15 reminds us not to harden our hearts when we hear His voice, and that voice is calling now. Breaking cycles, removing distractions, and refusing to let shame become a barrier are all essential parts of the return. The story of the prodigal son makes the heart of God clear: when you turn toward home, He does not rehearse your failures. He runs to meet you. Staying close to God after returning requires more than willpower. Acts 1:8 promises that the Holy Spirit provides real power to every believer, and surrendering to that power daily is what makes lasting change possible. God also designed His people to live in community, not in isolation. Mentors, accountability partners, and prayer warriors are not optional extras. They are part of how God sustains His people for the long journey. No matter how far you have drifted, the call back is real, the grace is sufficient, and the celebration is waiting.
