“Purpose Beyond the Pain”

from "Prayer Changes Everything" Devotion for Today · host Y.E.S. Jesus Youth Encountering Savior Jesus

July 27, 2026 Daily Devotional: “Purpose Beyond the Pain”Psalm 118:17 "I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord." There are moments in life when circumstances feel heavy enough to consume us. Whether through physical suffering, emotional exhaustion, grief, or overwhelminghardship, we often find ourselves standing at what feels like the absolute end of our endurance. Psalm 118 was sung by God’s people during times of victory and remembrance, yet its roots are buried deep in struggle. Verse 17 is not merely a statement of physical survival; it is a declaration of divine purpose. Notice the two distinct parts of the verse: the preservation: "I shall not die, but live..." and the purpose: "...and declare the works of the Lord." God does not just pull us through trials so that we can return to business as usual. He preserves us so that our lives become living altars of His grace. When you survive a season that felt designed to break you, your ongoing existence is evidence of His sustaining power. You are still herebecause God still has a story to tell through you. Survival is the gift; testimony is the response. Your life is meant to be a microphone for God's faithfulness. At its core, Psalm 118:17 is a powerful declaration that survival is not an accident—it is a purpose. It expresses a bold,faith-filled stance in the middle of adversity. It acknowledges that while destruction seemed inevitable, God had the final say over the psalmist's life.It teaches that your life has survived because your mission is not finished. It shifts the focus from the severity of the trial to the purpose of the preservation—moving from being a victim of circumstance to an active witness of God's faithfulness. Your story isn't over for If you still have breath in your lungs, God still has purpose for your days. Reframing perception of trials when the enemy's goal in difficult seasons is often to silence you. God's purpose in delivering you is to give you something worth speaking about. Living intentionally because to "live" means more than just existing day-to-day—it means actively noticing and sharing what God is doing in and around you.
