Putting Off the Old, Putting On the New
from The Word Alone Podcast · host Nathan A. Hughes
“And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.”Ephesians 4:24When we trust Christ as our Saviour, God not only forgives our sins but also begins a work of transformation in our lives. The Christian life is not merely about changing a few habits; it is about becoming a new person from the inside out.In Ephesians 4:17–24, Paul reminds believers that they should no longer live as they once did. Before Christ, our thinking was darkened and our desires were controlled by sin. But those who have “learned Christ” are called to leave that old way of life behind. This is a daily choice. We are to “put off” the old man by rejecting sinful attitudes, selfish ambitions, bitterness, pride and impurity. At the same time, we are to be “renewed in the spirit of your mind” as we allow God’s Word to shape our thoughts and decisions. As our minds are renewed, our actions begin to reflect the character of Christ.Putting on the “new man” means choosing what pleases God even when it is difficult. It means speaking truth, showing kindness, forgiving others, and living in holiness. These changes are not accomplished by our own strength but by yielding ourselves to the Holy Spirit each day.PrayerHeavenly Father, thank You for making me a new creation in Christ. Help me to put away the habits and attitudes of my old life and to be renewed in my mind each day through Your Word. Strengthen me to walk in righteousness and true holiness so that my life will bring glory to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen. This is a public episode.
