Qadry Ismail on playing at Syracuse and winning a Super Bowl

Qadry Ismail grew up playing sports in Newark, NJ along with his brothers Raghib and Sulaiman.  At age 15, he moved to Wilkes-Barre, PA where he and his brother Raghib excelled for the football team at E.L. Meyers HS.  Qadry was also a State Champion in Track & Field and was named the 1988 Athlete of the Year by several local publications.  With that success came recruitment by a number of universities in the Northeast including Penn State, West Virginia and Virginia Tech.  Ismail eventually chose Syracuse University in New York to play both football and run track.  In 1991, Ismail was named an All-American hurdler and kick returner, becoming the first two-sport All-American at Syracuse since Jim Brown in 1957.  While playing for the Orangemen, Ismail competed in four bowl games and led Syracuse to a #6 ranking in 1992.  In 1993, the Minnesota Vikings drafted Ismail starting a 10-year NFL career that included additional stops in Miami, New Orleans, Baltimore and Indianapolis. It was in Baltimore with the Ravens that Ismail won his Super Bowl ring in 2000 playing alongside mentor Shannon Sharpe.  After retiring with the Indianapolis Colts, Ismail began his post-playing career which has included broadcasting, coaching and sports performance training. Ismail shares stories from all these stops along his journey and remembers those who influenced his life and career.  We also learn how his mom gave him his nickname, “The Missile”, after older brother Raghib was nicknamed “The Rocket” by a high school coach.
