Qhubeka's bicycles stimulate community development in South Africa

from CambridgeJBS · host CambridgeJBS

For most of us, bicycles are just a form of transport, whether we use it for the daily commute, shopping or leisure. But in South Africa, a bicycle can be much more than that. Millions of South African children walk more than two hours each way to and from school and a bicycle could cut short that journey, thus freeing up valuable time for children to do school work. Qhubeka, a not-for-profit set up in South Africa, wants to use the bicycle to achieve wide-ranging change in communities. Wendy van Eyck tells us how Qhubeka supplies bicycles to communities in return for everything from better academics to recycling.
