Queer Activism and Wellbeing with Status Queer - Quito, Ecuador.
from Queer World Podcast
Hello and thanks for coming back if you've been here before. If you're new, welcome to Queer World Podcast! It's great to have you with us!This week, I am telling you about my meeting with 2 members of Status Queer, a community led activist and social group based in Quito, Ecuador. In February 2023 I went to one of Status Queer's social events where I interviewed the lovely Ricardo and Jorge Luis about what the group do.There are multiple sides to Status Queer; there is Queer Labs, in which they create research and data sourcing groups to gather statistics and stories about life for LGBTQ+ Ecuadorians with the aim of creating policy reform and recommendation plans for institutions and government. There is also Queer n' Chill, a social meetup that offers an opportunity for the community to meet, connect and get in touch with themselves in a supportive environment of their queer peers.Ricardo and Jorge Luis are super smart, passionate and optimistic guys that give me huge hope for the future. I really recommend following Status Queer (Insta: @statusqueer.ec) and keeping up to date on the work they are doing because I think they are going to be instrumental in the progression of rights for our community in Ecuador.Happy listening! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
