Quentin Durward Chapter III - The Castle

In which young Quentin Durward surveys the formidable Castle of Plessis les Tours, contemplating its intricate defences and the grim justice displayed without, whilst conversing with his guide about the might of the Scottish guard and the nature of allegiance and honour. Their discourse leads them to a quiet village inn, a place of sober hospitality shadowed by the austere presence of the royal fortress nearby, where quiet comfort awaits the weary traveller.
