Question 59: WHY CANNOT WE ACTIVELY SEPARATE THE SOUL FROM THE PHYSICAL BODY WHILE WE ARE ALIVE?
from DIALOGUES BETWEEN BUDDHISM AND OTHER RELIGIONS · host Janna Order Monastery
Question 59: WHY CANNOT WE ACTIVELY SEPARATE THE SOUL FROM THE PHYSICAL BODY WHILE WE ARE ALIVE?Answer: The soul and the physical body develop together from the fetal stage, merging asa unified entity. Mental activities are also expressed through the physical body, particularly via the brain’s neural cells. From a materialistic perspective, all thoughts and mental activities basically result from the workings of the brain's neurons, which leads scientists to conclude that the mind (or soul) is merely the activity of the brain’s neurons. However, though the body and soul are seemingly interconnected as one, they remain distinct entities. There are some scenarios in which the soul can separate from the body:- When thephysical body dies, the brain’s neurons cease functioning, forcing the soul to detach from the body to exist independently, thus becoming a spirit. This is known as the "compulsory" separation of the soul, which can cause discomfort or distress.- When one entersa deep meditative state, the brain’s neurons either stop working or function at such a minimal level that the soul is no longer bound to the brain. In this state, the soul can detach consciously and freely from the body.- In someinstances of deep coma, the brain’s activity temporarily ceases, and the soul, in a state of limbo, may spontaneously detach from the body to wander for a time. If this separation becomes permanent, physical death ensues. When the soul (or spirit) separates from the body, it resembles a formless, hazy cloud, with only the faculty of awareness present. Over time, this amorphous cloud gradually takes form, becoming a spirit with a more defined appearance. If a person is reborn into heaven after death, their spirit will instantly become radiant, clearly defined, powerful and free, possessing profound understanding and insight. If a person is reborn into the realm of hungry ghosts or hell after death, their spirit will become dark and murky, gradually forming an ugly and terrifying appearance with a weak and ordinary awareness. #Religions, #Buddhism, #DialogueBuddhismReligions, #Religious, #Buddhist, #Truedharma, #Meditation, #Enlightement, #Buddhatemple, #TheLawofKarma, #BuddhismforBeginners, #Janna, #JannaOrderMonastery,
