The level of Divine Beings is measured by their degree of selflessness (egolessness). The highest Divine Beings are those who have attained complete selflessness. Similarly, a meditation practitioner who achieves a tranquil state of mind oriented toward selflessness and progressively eliminates attachment to the ego becomes increasingly aligned with higher Divine Beings. Meditation is the path leading to egolessness and, ultimately, to unity with the Divine. However, if the practitioner does not persist in the goal of selflessness and unexpectedly succumbs to arrogance along theway, they will stagnate or even regress. Why does arrogance emerge unexpectedly during practice?
