Quick Hit #137: Avoid These 4 Big Myths

There are 4 Big Myths people are believing right now during this season of COVID-19 that are holding you back from performance, fulfillment and success. They are: MYTH #1: You need to hustle your face off right now. The first myth says you need to use every waking moment during this time to move forward with intensity and vigor —hustling your way to success. The danger here is you miss out on the valuable insights, clarity and breakthrough that can only come in the space, in the quiet, in the stillness as Ryan Holiday says. Instead, as I've been teaching my clients: Less is more —now is the time to identify your "Big 3" priorities and delete the rest of the noise. By focusing on less, you get "more". MYTH #2: You need to simply "be" and unplug right now. You shouldn't have a calendar right now, this is the time to "reset", to let go, to align your chakras and find true North, right? Well, not quite —because while I do agree that this season is a powerful time to go inward, the premise is flawed: Without any structure, we lose ourselves. Without any boundaries, we say yes to BS. Without any discipline, distraction takes over. MYTH #3: You can't grow (or start) a business right now. Maybe you were just getting started in your business —and now what? Well, disruption just fast forwarded 5 years, and the freelance, entrepreneurial, remote economy is only here to stay and grow faster than ever. Businesses that do not adapt will be left behind —but those who can deliver services virtually, fulfill on solving problems, are here to stay. Imagine if you'd started two years ago? Now is the second best time to do so. MYTH #4: Things will ultimately go back to "normal". My generation have now had two once-in-a-lifetime wake up calls: I graduated in 2008 in the middle of the financial crisis, and now this. There are people who believe everything will go back to "normal" —and who are going to wait it out. Personally, crisis and "wake up calls" have taught me that I am 100% responsible, and no never rely on the government, an employer, or the old system.
