The idea of moving backwards or forward on the timeline has intrigued many writers and scientist. Also, it has inspired conspiracy theorist who claim alien encounters are actually human time travellers. With are current rate of technology I could envision some form of time travel, but that would cost billions of dollars and take a lifetime to develop. Maybe if were fortunate we can detect a wormhole in space and use it as are universal time machine. This idea may sound crazy to you, but so was the airplane, telephone and personal computers.
