Rabbits are back
from West Gippsland Week Hosted by Paul E Strickland
Rabbits were imported in early colonial times for sport but quickly spread throughout Australia (well, they bred like rabbits!). The consequences were devastating to the environment and agriculture for many years until a virus provided a biological control - myxomatosis - which eventually lost it's potency. More recently virus controls have also been successful, but again the relief is temporary. So the Center for Invasive Species Solutions is working on the next thing but it's not clear enough investment is being made.
