Race and the Church: Part 2

from The Vine Church Podcast

This week’s podcast episode is the second part of a two-part conversation on “Race And The Church.” In today’s episode, Warren and Jason are joined again by two of the three guests from part 1 to hear about their experiences, stories and perspectives as black Christians in America. As our country grapples with issues around race and racism, we hope these conversations will be informative and insightful regarding the ways in which those conversations specifically play out within a church context. Churches remain one of the most segregated spaces in American life, and that can create issues and — in the words of our guests — “dissonance” within many Christians. Some of the challenges and issues created by this reality are obvious, but others are more subtle and nuanced. We hope you’ll take time to listen, reflect and join us in considering how the church can offer helpful voices, perspectives and initiatives as we collectively move forward.Chris Daughtery is the author of the book entitled From Boys to Gentlemen and founder of a mentoring program of the same name dedicated to developing life skills for at risk kids. His book is a tool for healing child parent relationships. He is a motivational speaker, husband, and father of 4 boys. He lives in Abilene, Texas.Tomishia Williams is originally from Bermuda, but she now lives in Temple, Texas and has been a regular member of The Vine Church for almost 4 years. Raised outside of the US and as a Muslim, Tomishia’s spiritual journey and experiences with race and the church provide a unique perspective that challenges American notions of what it means to practice their faith.
