Before "The Fantasticks," Schmidt-Jones wrote for revues. Julius Monk ran "Upstairs at the Downstairs," which gave breaks to Bill Dana, Ronny Graham, Nancy Dussault and many others. Each year saw a new show (Four Below, Take Five, etc.) and Jane Connell's manic performance was the hit of "Demi- Dozen." Here's the saga of the old IRT subway train vs the newer model on the BMT line. (Going up to the Bronx, the IND train was also much newer than the IRT). Harvey Schmidt died two days ago (Feb 28, 2018) at the age of 88.
