Rachel Entrekin on Fixed Time Ultra Strategies and Mental Tricks to Race Better

from Everyday Ultra · host Joe Corcione

Whether its for 6 hours, 24 hours, or 72 hours (or more), fixed time ultras are unlike any other standard-distance race. With typically super repetitive courses, frequent aid stations, and racing against the clock, they have earned their right as one of the most brutal challenges if you're looking to push yourself to the extreme. And today's guest is someone who has had tons of success (and fun) competing in fixed time ultras! Today, we're chatting with Rachel Entrekin, who is an endurance athlete based out of Southern California. She has tons of experience and solid results in fixed time ultras, FKTs, and standard distance ultras. Some of her results include winning the Across The Years 48 hour race, winning the Jackpot Ultras 24 hour race, nabbing FKTs on the Wonderland Trail, Rae Lakes Loop, and Trans-Catalina trail, and so many more! In this episode, Rachel discusses her strategy for crushing fixed time ultras (while also having fun), what mental tricks she uses to help keep herself in the game when things get tough, and powerful lessons she's learned from life experiences that translate into her racing. Huge thank you to Rachel for making this happen!
