Mid-Atlantic-based jockey Trevor McCarthy recently paused his 12-year riding career, during which his mounts earned over $76 million and captured numerous prestigious stakes races, including Grade I and II wins along the East Coast. Trevor sat down with me to discuss his decision to step back from racing at just 30 years old, sharing his insights on the challenging life of a jockey, especially during a difficult time for the sport. We also talked about his remarkable racing family: his father, jockey Michael McCarthy, his jockey wife, Katie, and his in-laws Dylan, Jacky, and Robbie.
