Radio Owlsnest Episode 37 Gather ‘round, “OwlHeads”, gather around; it’s time for another spectacular! This month’s effort has a distinct feline flavor about it - my deep love and respect of cats permeates the whole proceedings. In particular, we will touch upon the brilliant art work of Louis Wain. I’ve recently been hugely inspired by a movie about him called, “The Electrical Life of Louis Wain”; his characterizations of the “furry tribe” are just iconic and magical. Hence, some of my song demos I play you today will be influenced by the animal kingdom. I will touch upon the 80’s as well with some considerable gusto. I’ll be playing some definitive vintage home demos I recorded during that technicolor period. One such very rare track that I penned with Bernie Taupin will be given its first ever airing - a song called “Union Jack” that I totally adore. It reeks of that vibrant era, when synthesizers ruled the world and we lost all fashion sense. I feel Bernie is at his lyrical best on this home 8 track recording. Within the frenetic pace of the show, I’ll try and inject a little personal fact finding history with the story of the early pro bands I played in… my apprenticeship as a bass player that eventually led to me becoming a songwriter.
