Good morning.A major fourteen-and-a-half million dollar environmental cleanup is kicking off at Denison Park in Corning this week. State Department of Environmental Conservation officials report crews are beginning a two-phase remediation effort to remove heavy metals—including lead, mercury, and arsenic—from park soils, with final completion targeted for fall of 2027.In local crime news, an Elmira man is facing felony charges for alleged retail identity theft. Chemung County Sheriff’s deputies arrested forty-one-year-old James T. Bowes after investigators say he stole a victim's debit card and used it to purchase items at the Lowe's and Target stores in Big Flats. Bowes was remanded to the Chemung County Jail.Over in Horseheads, deputies have charged forty-two-year-old Brian A. Patterson with second-degree felony assault after an investigation into a violent altercation on Wygant Road. Authorities say Patterson struck a victim in the knee with a steel breaker bar, causing injury.
