Good morning.The American Red Cross has declared a national blood crisis as hospital demand continues to outpace the supply of critical blood products. This marks only the second national crisis declared in the organization's one-hundred-and-forty-five-year history. Officials report that type O positive blood has fallen below a single day's supply, and an emergency shortage of platelets is threatening to delay lifesaving treatments for local cancer patients.As students head back to class, AAA East Central is launching its annual School's Open-Drive Carefully campaign to protect young pedestrians. Highway safety officials warn that late afternoon hours are the most dangerous for children, with data showing nearly one in five children under fourteen killed in traffic crashes are pedestrians. Drivers are urged to slow down in school zones, stop completely for school buses, and eliminate dashboard distractions.And in Crawford County, progress continues on the Water Street revitalization project in Conneaut Lake Borough. Officials report new traffic signal poles for the intersections of Third and Fourth streets are set for delivery by the end of September.
