The proposal includes a 2.39-percent tax levy increase. District officials say the plan focuses on sustaining current programs despite stagnant state aid and rising health insurance costs. One item on the horizon: the district will soon receive its first electric bus—a "test-run" as they navigate the state’s zero-emission mandate.In Hornell, the race for the Board of Education is heating up. Four candidates are vying for three open seats on the May 19th ballot. Incumbents Joe Liberto and Dr. Uzma Mehr are seeking re-election against former board president Jessica Talbot and newcomer Julie Conklin. Voters will also decide on a 49-million-dollar budget and a final deal to transfer ownership of Maple City Park from the city to the school district.And looking back at Olean history, today marks 75 years since a massive fire gutted the main retail block in Little Valley, destroying staples like Mero Brothers Hardware and McLouth’s Drug Store.
