The National Weather Service has issued a widespread Heat Advisory in effect from eleven a-m until eight p-m today. Meteorologists warn temperatures in the nineties, combined with heavy humidity, will push heat index values past the one-hundred-degree mark. Emergency officials urge residents to limit outdoor activity and check on vulnerable neighbors.In state education news, a sudden leadership shakeup is rocking Western New York. The Buffalo Board of Education voted abruptly on Monday night to accept the immediate resignation of Superintendent Doctor Pascal Mubenga, less than a year after he signed a major four-year contract. The board declined to comment on the reason for his sudden departure and has appointed Doctor Ebony Prophet-Bullock to serve as interim superintendent.Meanwhile, a Rochester man faces federal charges after allegedly threatening to kill Donald Trump Junior. The Secret Service arrested thirty-nine-year-old James Eckert Junior after tracing threats posted in the live chat of a podcast, as well as on a subsequent livestream. Prosecutors say Eckert also targeted Rochester Mayor Malik Evans and faces up to five years in prison.Closer to home, the American Red Cross has declared an emergency blood shortage across New York after regional donations plummeted by twenty-five percent. Supplies of O-positive and B-negative blood are critically low.
