Good morning.New Yorkers are finally getting a breath of fresh air today as the state-wide Air Quality Health Advisory officially expires. After days of battling thick, unhealthy smoke from Canadian wildfires that prompted Governor Hochul to distribute over one-hundred-thousand N95 masks, meteorologists say a shifting wind pattern will clear out the haze today, bringing much cleaner air and blue skies back to the Empire State just in time for the weekend. In state-wide policy news, Governor Kathy Hochul is gathering feedback after signing a historic bill putting a one-year moratorium on all new large-scale AI data centers in New York. Following the bill's signing, Hochul held a roundtable discussion with lawmakers and business owners to discuss how to protect the state’s utility grid and ensure local communities benefit. Local leaders, including Kingston Mayor Steve Noble, expressed severe concerns about the massive energy demands of these facilities and urged the state to keep local governments in control of future developments.Meanwhile, health care tensions are boiling over in Columbia County. Dozens of hospital staff and local residents rallied outside Columbia Memorial Health Hospital in Hudson to protest a controversial downsizing proposal. Hospital management has submitted plans to the state health department to slash inpatient bed sizes from sixty-five down to just twenty-five. Administrators argue that transitioning the facility to a critical access site is the only way to secure the federal funding needed to close a massive budget deficit, but critics warn the cuts will severely impact local patient care. And a massive weekend for classic car enthusiasts officially revs up today at the New York State Fairgrounds. The annual Syracuse Nationals, the largest car show in the Northeastern United States, kicks off this morning and runs through Saturday. The three-day event features thousands of hot rods and classic vehicles from across the nation, alongside live music and celebrity appearances. Tickets are thirty dollars at the gate, and kids twelve and under get in free.In local government news, political ripples are spreading through the Southern Tier following the sudden resignation of Olean Common Council President Vernon Robinson Junior. Robinson made history as the first African American ever appointed to the city's council, and was elected council president last summer. His resignation is officially set to take effect on July twenty-eighth.For more news, download the radioNOVO app. I’m Codi Gaboff, radioNOVO News, a service of Seven Mountains Media.
