Commemoration ceremonies are taking place across New York today, from Albany International Airport to Lower Manhattan, where this year’s service at Ground Zero will feature a new seventh moment of silence to honor the thousands of first responders, recovery workers, and survivors who have died from post-ninety-eleven illnesses. Marking the solemn milestone, Governor Kathy Hochul signed three new laws expanding retirement, workers' compensation, and healthcare eligibility for surviving family members and first responders. It comes as newly unsealed city documents reveal toxic air quality was recorded at Ground Zero for up to ten months after the attacks despite public assurances at the time that the air was safe.In education news, the American Federation of Teachers has reached a landmark agreement with Microsoft regarding artificial intelligence in classrooms. The first-of-its-kind deal stops the tech company from tracking students, using teacher or student data to train A-I models, and allowing automated systems to make independent decisions without human oversight.
