Good morning,A deadly chemical leak in Kanawha County is under investigation after two workers were killed and dozens more hospitalized. Officials say the incident happened at a plant in Institute during a shutdown process, when a chemical reaction released a toxic gas. Around 30 people were treated, including several first responders, some for respiratory issues. State and federal agencies, including OSHA, are now working to determine what caused the release and whether safety protocols were followed.In Raleigh County, federal officials are investigating a deadly mining accident. Fifty-three-year-old Aaron W. Warrix, a shuttle car operator with more than 20 years of experience, was killed April 2nd after being struck by falling rock while installing supports underground at the Panther Eagle Mine. Investigators say the incident happened during retreat mining when rock fell from the roof between support bolts. It’s one of two mining fatalities reported in the state within a 24-hour period.In Cabell County, police are investigating multiple shootings in Huntington early Saturday. Several people were taken to the hospital with injuries, and officers responded to multiple scenes across the city. Authorities have not confirmed if the incidents are connected and say the investigations remain active.West Virginia’s Secretary of State is warning residents about a text message scam using the state seal. Officials say the messages falsely claim people owe fines for traffic or parking violations and urge immediate payment through a link or QR code. Secretary of State Kris Warner says the messages are fraudulent and should be reported.As roadwork season ramps up statewide, the Division of Highways is announcing multiple construction and paving projects now underway. Drivers should expect delays, lane closures, and changing traffic patterns and are urged to use caution in work zones.And the West Virginia Department of Commerce is marking National Apprenticeship Week with events across the state, connecting students and job seekers with training opportunities in fields like construction, manufacturing, and technology.
