Both stepped up when a gunman opened fire on fellow Guard members the day before Thanksgiving. Guard Specialist Sarah Beckstrom died from her wounds, while Staff Sergeant Andrew Wolfe survived and continues to recover. Back in West Virginia, a legal battle involving The Greenbrier resort is drawing national attention. Attorneys for a Texas-based ownership group claim Senator Jim Justice told them he had influence over state judges — an allegation his legal team strongly denies. The state Democratic Party is now calling for a U.S. Senate Ethics Committee investigation.In Preston County, leaders are considering a new annual fee to help fund emergency medical services. The proposal would charge most households about 90 dollars a year, as officials say rising EMS costs are putting pressure on local resources. A vote on the plan could come soon.And in Marshall County, officials are investigating after a commercial truck crash spilled nearly 15-hundred gallons of oil-based mud near Route 250.
