The beginning jiu-jitsu student had signed a waiver to take lessons; that much was clear. Also clear, tragically so, was that the young man suffered a catastrophic spinal cord injury while sparring with his jiu-jitsu instructor. Plaintiffs’ attorney Rahul Ravipudi and his team moved, successfully, to get the waiver deemed unenforceable.
